hey i dun mind if i can't see the icons from distance... but the question is can the gvs see us? not fair i we can't see gvs, but gvs can see us rite?

You can see the tanks against the grass which are fairly easy to pick out you just don't know what it is.

Ah-hah. Well it would appear that's an error on my part. I was pretty sure I'd read 600 yards in one of the forums and then when I read that "halved when stopped" I mistakenly halved 600, when it was half of 1200.

Still, IMO it takes it a step back from insane, but it's still in the "ludicrous" zone. Let's just hope it doesn't go "plaid."

it's 1500 yds now.  don't see that it'll be that big of deal.

Would be nice if it didn't hand fighters to Whirbelwinds for free kills by cowardly runners being able to see their friendly Whirbelwinds ten times further away than the enemy can.

This is from somebody who doesn't bomb GVs,  Or didn't.  My sympathy has been largely eroded by AA vehicles interfering in air-to-air combats.

You can still see tanks in the air they do stick out a bit against the ground you just dont know what it is.

I wish that HTC would add different colored smokes so you could mark certain tanks with certain colors instead of just the generic orange which by the way is very visible and works very well IMO.
.
This actually makes more sense for realism, in the 60's air support was called in all the time and the dense jungle rendered visibility from the air impossible. The common practice was to pop a colored smoke and vector the aircraft in by radio calling out the enemys positions in relation to the smoke. The aircraft (or gunships) would then drop ords in the vectored area.  Of course there were very few enemy gv's back then till the 70's (well after my time in the theater) just ground troops and fortified positions.  I don't grouse about having my gv  killed from the air as in my experience calling in air support (or artillery) was a daily practice, and in this game also makes sense. When you're between a rock and a hard spot for real, having the air jocks handy is a real life saver. Some of these guys were so damn accurate. I have personal experience with F100  jocks dropping 500lbers within a few hundred yards of our positions. Scary viewpoint from my position and I bet even scarier from the enemy positions. Always wanted to find the pilots and buy them a beer.

Nothings more annoying when there is a fun GV fight between two V-bases, then comes a stuka/a20 from the nearest airfield (still furter than 1 1/2 sectors...) only to drop you.

This dinamic icon range stuff looks very interesting. Especially it wont change anything when a large GV group is headed to your airfield, you can still drop them in the same way.

I would hope that the changes made to vis ranges for vehicles apply to both sides evenly. That is to say, I shouldn't be able to pick out friendly GV's from thousands of yards away when enemy GV's can only be con'd from hundreds of yards away.

If folks need to know where the flak cover is to run to, use a radio. Feints of realism obviously being the intent here, that's how it would have been done in a real enviorment. A GV camo'd in tree's is just as hard to see for friend or foe.

That part is really important imo.

Also (and I have no idea how this works currently) if there are new vis limiters from the air based on movement or cover, those thould apply on the ground as well. Again, assuming they don't already.

How is this addressed in the Beta arena?  Can you still spot friendly GVs further out than enemies?  Can't decide which are worse: Whirbies camping airfields or those wusses that run to them when losing a 1 v 1.

if a werb starts firing on a plane its icon should appear no matter distance

one thing that bugged me was flying to a fight and all of a sudden getting shot down by some GV that I never pay attention to...I didn't complain I took up a new plane and flew to the fight in a different route...I have NEVER bombed a GV...yet have been killed by them, spawning on a runway and BAMM a GV sitting at the end of runway killing planes as the spawn

now they are gonna be even harder to see :headscratch:

you know what.....still don't matter to me.... no matter what how or why they do things or change things I am still gonna get my plane in the Air and kill some MO FO's :t

Just got done in the Beta. GV'ers will definitely be getting a break from the Jabos. You have to be under 1500 ft in order to see them on icon range. New textures and resolution blend in very well with bases especially the v bases. The storch offers a marking capability but if spotted all the tank has to do is move. If a wirble  is parked near the tank any plane within 1k should be be easy pickins. It will be interesting to see how it all plays out when installed in MA.

They don't blend in when you set the slider for performance rather than detail....  You can still see the vehicle a long way off, you just can't tell what type it is....

I find that a high speed run over to the GVs (too fast to track, even for the Wirbles), paints a nice picture of what is what. Zoom up and attack.
My regards,

The only problem I found with that in beta is the gv blends into the ground once you zoom up. That coupled with SA on any air cons and when you come back down to line up on target you aim is going to off. Had to redo several times. Got to remember icon is lost after the range of view is surpassed. IF wirbles are about and close the Gv u spotted may be the bait for the wirble just out of icon range and still within range of shooting you down. I think we're gonna have to rethink the whole jabo thing.
