Does the AvA still do no icons? I that was always really fun while I was in there.

I fly  no icons all the time and cant understand the argument that its flying blind. I suppose we are all at different point in the learning curve..

We've shown you exactly HOW it's like flying legally blind. We've explained to you the details seen in every day flight sorties, missions, etc. We've had people explain the science of optics to you. We've had real world pilot testimonials saying what they CAN see -- airline pilots, FIGHTER pilots (modern jets), private pilots, and warbird pilots flying these planes now. Every source has been made available to you to explain why it is like flying legally blind.

You ignore these facts and keep spouting this "We're better, that's all" -- and belittle folks who have corrected you 6 ways from Sunday.

So no... it's not a matter of different skill levels. It's not a matter of being better than others. it's not a matter of making it easy for the MA, etc. You CAN ride a bike with 1 leg. You can run marathons. You can ski. You're still handicapped when you do it, and that's what is happening here. In the no-icons topic, you have OVERCOME a problem -- but it is an artificial problem you have created and pretended it is more noble than it really is.

Yes, you can get better and more used to no icons than others.

It's just a preference some people like, others hate, and it is not a good idea for the main arenas.

That's not at all what I'm saying please don't put words in my mouth. What  I'm saying is, its different, and takes a different set of skills that need to be learned.

To appreciate and understand short or no icons it takes a willingness to want to take the time to learn it.

Let me be very clear here.. I am in No way promoting no or limeted icons for the MA. that's the bread and butter arena.. It will never work well with a mixed plane set. But in an Axis v Allied, FSO or custom arena style set up, its an ideal way to intensify a players flight sim experience..

It would never be a good idea for the MA because each side isn't flying a distinctive AC.

This is true because it needs to be the same playing field for all.

What would be ideal is a separate arena dedicated for this type of play.

The Custom Arenas are close but it would be better for there to be a consistent presence of a 24/7 arena, plus there are no stat gathering capabilities or logging in the customs.

There is a market for this in the flight sim world.

This is an IL2 HL screenshot. The games circled in red are all no icon Axis vs Allies setups, and those are just the ones I know of. Also, the numbers are likely much higher because these only show the ones who have entered through Hyperlobby and most of them have a way to directly connect to as well.



Whether or not the market could be found in AH, I don't know, but this screenshot was taken in the US daytime hours which indicates to me that the no-icon dynamic is pretty popular among Euro players.

With the new marketing of a boxed game overseas, a dedicated no icon arena might be something to think about.

It's exactly what you're saying. Every time. Every time it is either an open or veiled insult to any that disagree with your stance on no-icons. Every time. I quoted you this time and many times before in other discussions. Your constant theme is that you have more skill than those that fly with icons, that flying with no icons is purer, better, and more realistic, and that only the best pilots can hack it, etc. When I quoted you in this past post, you were continuing that theme, and it is insulting.

"We're on different parts of the learning curve" is a direct insult saying that you're at the top and others are not. Or... were you saying YOU were at the bottom of the learning curve, which is doubtful given past discussions...

 Anyone who has dedicated any time in a limeted or no icon environment knows how much fun it is...
 
Get with it man its 2012 times are changing.  Be progressive..... With  1920x1080 42" plus monitors @ $500 and dropping along with tools like track ir we are seeing more and more folks moving toward a no icon environment, Its fun, its immersing, and its intense..

No icons will never work well with a mixed plane  set such as the MA but in an Axis v Allied,FSO or correct custom arena set up its an ideal way to intensify the players experience..

 I in no way feel the MA is a place for NO icons.  Its not the environment for it. I would never recommend it there.
 

 Diversity is a good think  krusty. It's  your choice if you choose to limit your horizons to only one style of game play.
