Whenever I get CTDs I am doing something way more than what my video card can handle.  For instance overclocked video card guaranteed CTD withing 4 or 5 hours of steady play (yes it is sad... I do log on for such long periods  :o )

SF,  I believe that something is overworking your machine somewhere, but my tech days were long ago and short lived.  I just Frankenstein what ever I can get my hands on here to play AH as my hobby.  So, if this is consistent, I would definitely post your dxdiag in hardware and tech help sections, or even here might have some really good advice from others with real know how.

Not like you fellas that get to fly the real stuff around.  ;)

Prior to patches 3 and 4 I had bad framerates, micro stutters and crashes and had to run with sliders bottomed out. All seems much smoother now, all bump maps now on, full object detail and halfway on the distance slider, frames consistant at 60 with 40 in high density areas. I was also able to bump my resolution up to 1080.

Skuzzy, right now my modem is sharing the powered port with joy stick, throttle & pedals?
Would it help if I add another powered USB hub where I now have my mike plugged in?
Or should I do put my modem on a powered hub by itself, and keep the mike with the controls?    :old:

FRS back in the low teens and back to being frustrated.
I love AH and will keep my subscription going, but I'm gong to be offline until I can build another computer.
Thanks to everyone for their help.
Be back in a few months.   :old:

Just curious LabRat, did you try a ping plot when your frame rates were low?  HiTech even suggested something about the ping details that are supplied by the game.  When there are good numbers on the server and even possibly certain maps might give a fluctuation in framerates.

My suggestion is not to expect just any "new" machine to be any better.  Especially if you are not able to find out what is driving your framerates down.  Since I doubt if you will be able to "test drive" a new computer in your home with your connection, I would think that 14.95 a month would be a less expensive way to determine if a new rig $$$$ is going to solve your "real" game play issues, because whenever I have framerates lower than 20, it is because of a setting or detail that I have changed.

LabRat,  I don't recall if you posted your dxdiag snapshot from your computer or if you discussed anything other than the USB shared connection with the hardware experts.  My experience has been that I am able to run my very modest machines, relatively smoothly (some hiccups here and there) as well as those that have spent thousands on their rigs.

To give you an idea where my rig stacks up, she is a rescue pup named Mercury, I found her disassembled and hard drive and most parts removed.

Oh and by the way, I once shared the responsibility of taking care of some 3,000 lab rats.  About 1200 of them were the Long Evans hooded variety, (some very cool critters).

Actually I'm a retired Draftsman 25 years, manual and then later AutoCAD. I also did about 20 years in construction.

Back in the 70's I owned a redtail boa constrictor. I fed him a diet of rats. After about a year I started raising my own white rats and I sold the extras to for a local pet store for reptile food.

My BBS name, Lat Rat 3947, comes from a joke.
God doesn't make mistakes, therefore I must be on of His experimental models; i.e. a "lab rat". the "serial" number is my birthday.
I've been using that moniker since the 70s. Just my sense of humor.    :old:

My computer is a Dell XPS 400
Did I post enough of the dxdiag?

I did not change anything since my earlier post to Skuzzy about separating the modem and my Z6A headset from my powered hub.

When the map changed my FPS took a major hit into the 17-19 arnge and was very "jerky".

I'm surprised that the game even runs on this computer! Did you make sure that everything is disabled in the game?

Well this patch did it for me I can't even play now. My frame rate is in the single digits now it was 60. I have every thing turn off or turned down and I am using Game Booster.
