2nd video card?
« on: April 26, 2012, 12:10:20 PM »
Ok, so I installed a second video card (MSI 9800gt 512OC  x 2) Hooked it up SLI and seems to function properly. I have an SLI meter thing lit up onscreen. If I bring up control "I" ingame to check frame rates it still shows 512 mb ram available. Is this normal?  The SLI graphic onscreen is a type of meter and gets bigger or smaller, i'm assuming for usage demand. Is this correct?

ASUS p5n-d MB
E8600 processor
4gb ddr2 800mhz
windows XP

When you SLI you do not get any more video RAM.

Also note, the current NVidia SLI profile for Aces High does not take into account the latest changes to the graphic engine in the game.

So is there a benefit to running SLI?

Honestly, I do not know what the impact of SLI is going to have with the new graphics engine.  It may work okay, but not well.  It may not work well.  I really do not know.

I just know the profile is not optimized for the new graphics engine.

So a single video card like this     http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1781498&CatId=3669
may be a better choice?

I'm going to try my SLI setup and post the results so people will have some idea what to expect. If that doesnt improve the frame rates, then I will go to the single newer card.

Thanks Skuzzy

This card is better and comes with a Lifetime Warranty.

I can only speak from personal experience on two warranty replacements with EVGA, they've EXCEEDED expectations both times.
