Free grouping of weapons
« on: July 20, 2012, 07:31:35 PM »
I would like to see an option in hangar, where the player can assign weapons to "primary" and "secondary" as he likes.

For example I do not like the 2 different 20mm guns in the 190A-5 both "to be secondary", I would like to be able to fire the long barreled MG 151 together with the BB guns as primary and add the short range MG-FF as secondary when getting close.
Or being able to fire the Mk-103 separate from the MG-151s, by setting the MK as "secondary" and the MG-151 together with the smaller guns as "primary".

A decent and legit wish, no doubt.  However, if fighters had 2 triggers for the most part and HTC has the guns grouped as they were in WWII, then I vote to keep them as is.  I'll give HTC the benefit of the doubt on this one.

Was it something that pilots did during the war, changing what trigger fired what group of guns?  Was it something that was common or did only a select few do it?  If the guns are historically set and it wasn't common practice, then I will have to say no.  However, if it was common practice for pilots to do this, then I don't see a problem. :aok

You can do this, just make mode 3 the same as mode1, then set your primary weapon to fire all.  I have this set on my Saitek Av8r, one flick of a switch im from mode 1 to 3 and your bombs/rockets are secondary.

...or even have a "tertiary" weapon?  (Might be too complicated for too little gain.)

Real 190s had on/off switches for all 3 banks,  1 for mgs, 1 for 20s, 1 for 30s,  and they did fire them seperately as needed
The Kanonenvogel had 6 rounds per pod, this is not even close to being open for debate.

I may need a some more help here.

I currently have "Button 0" set for "Fire all guns", but when the secondary weapons select is drop tanks/rockets/bombs (no guns), only 2-out-of-6 .50-cal guns will fire in a p51. What I want is have "Button 0" fire all my .50-cals no matter what is selected in the secondary weapons box.

no, it's either you are ready to fire rockets/drop bombs or fire all the guns.  I like it that way and I'll tell you why.

let's say I am chasing some guy and want to make him nervous, so i fire the primary which is 2 mg's just to get him nervous, instead of wasting bullets by firing all 6 mgs.  when I have a target solution then I will fire all 6 mgs.  this is only possible because we have 2 mgs set as primary and 4 as secondary.  same for the spitfire.  I dont want to waste canon so i do a quick tap of the mg's to make the guy nervous while saving the canon for when i have a good shot.

I wouldnt want to always fire all weapons all the time, it's a waste of ammo.  would you really like to fire all 30mm cannons in the 262 for a kill?  that would be a waste of 30mm.  same for the il2, I never fire the primary which is mg's to kill tanks it's a waste as it cant damage a tank and obscure the target, I only shoot the 37mm cannons.

if you drop bombs/rockets and keep forgetting to press backspace then it's a training issue for you.
