Added plane persistance
« on: June 19, 2013, 02:16:56 PM »
- I wish that we could land a plane, turn off its engines and park it for the night anywhere (applicable) on the terrain, so that when we relog the next day (or based on some limit) we can take it off and conduct secret missions or surprise attacks. While "parked", the plane would not have an icon, but would be visible as any normal plane is (basically just a drone standing in, like we have now for the disconnect/reconnect system).

And I wish I could find your plane, land next to it in an empty goon, take off in your plane, hide it sectors away
with no ammo left and very little gas .... just in case you manage to find it after all.  :)

I will have you guys know, that shortly after I posted my "can I haz new socket for plane.c, k thnx"  idea ages ago; the reconnect on disconnect suddenly appeared!

I would also like you guys to know, that that ability has been there from day 1 (2001), yet it wasn't programmed in! (the winsock library available in windows had been properly neglected).

We had been flying more then a decade without an extremely basic programming concept, until it was mentioned here. Imagine all the millions of headaches that could of been saved if that had been there from the start? (days of 56k dial-up popularity).

Its the simple ideas that are the ones that make the biggest difference.

Thanks for having us know. I still think finding persistant planes on the ground
would be a hoot. It's be like a hidden Easter egg.  :D

I support this idea if, and only if, you have to start from the nearest friendly base and have a squaddie fly you back in a C-47 or drive you there in a Jeep. You must be attached to a squaddie's aircraft or vehicle in order to gain control of your parked aircraft once you get there; if you drive or fly yourself you will just get a bailed or captured and no way to regain control of your parked aircraft.  Oh, and if you use a C-47 it must be landed, stationary, and within 200m of your parked aircraft in order for you to make the switch.

So, you want to park an aircraft several sectors into enemy territory and leave it there overnight?  Fine, but you have to find one other person willing to commit the time and effort to help you get you back to it.

For GV's maybe.............. linked to the facility to dig in and put the GV under camo which would remove its icon.
