This is the BBC Home Service...Today in the news. Large formations of German bombers raided London. The damage and loss of life were
significant. Buckingham Palace was hit in the raid as well.
The Royal Air Force interceptors seemed quite ineffective as the bombers flew overhead and bombed the city
at will.
When asked as to the protection of London, Air Chief Marshal Hugh Dowding stated that,
"London's protection is
RAF Fighter Commands utmost priority". We are dreadfully short of pilots and are covering the countryside
for the few brave pilots that will come to the aid of England.The citizens of London see this as no comfort as the question is asked,
