Starting on D-Day, June 6th - Normandy! in the AvA
« on: June 04, 2014, 08:12:27 PM »

This popular setup is returning in time for D-Day on Friday, June 6th.

Following the D-Day invasion, the Allies were desperate to expand their foothold in Normandy. Every day, they fought to expand that foothold and by August, they reached the Seine and Paris.

This week's setup starts one day after the D-Day landings. The majority of the Allied airforces are busy preventing the movement and regrouping of Axis reinforcements into Normandy. Or to put it another way, for balance and gameplay, the planesets and vehicles are limited.

Should the Axis throw the Allies out of Normandy, the Allies are able to storm ashore again from bases along the southern shore of England. Instructions are in the towers at the vBases.

Bases in eastern England and Northern France, etc., are out of play in this setup and the planeset is subject to minor changes for balance.

NOTES for this terrain:

Severe compromise to best practices was required to bring this terrain to the server and I hope that enough people have the hardware to play on it to justify the effort. Those with limited hardware should avoid Paris, London, La Havre, Caen, Cherbourg and Lisieux in that order. Otherwise, I think you'll be okay over the rest of the terrain.

You can explore if you enter alone. There are...

- custom fields, Airfields, V-Bases and Ports
- the Cliffs of Dover, along southern England
- the bluffs along the Normandy coast
- an upgraded LSTs originally built by Dux with built-in O'Clubs tied back to V-Bases on the southern English coast. It includes climbable ship's ladders for your pilot
- massive cities - Paris and London, and significant other cities; La Havre, Caen, Cherbourg and Lisieux
- the Eiffel tower, and your pilot can climb to the top!
- Lighthouses by jimson
- the major streets have lamp posts at all street intersections in the cities. Can you say Tank Battle?
- British and German battle flags over the maprooms
- Sealion style landing barges on the English coast
- two styles of custom bridges

Umm.... where are the Panzers? While not the bulk of the Panzer units, Rommel had had some of the panzers allocated to his command, and as such were available for deployment against the beach heads from Normandy itself.

Also, time?

The Allies own the beachhead bases, roughly half way to sector line eight. Except for Caen, there are no meaningful targets with complementary vehicle spawn points.

If someone in the arena requests it, we'll add a balanced vehicle set but I don't anticipate such a request. Vehicle killer aircraft are enabled for both sides.
