In the article I was reading, the Germans had floating ack barges that they moved around to make it hard to find and destroy the barges.  When they found them, they tried skip bombing but the ak fire from the barges was heavy I guess like trying to kill a B17 from its 6.  The P-38s successfully sank the barges by dive bombing them instead of skip bombing.

From what I have read the fuse delay was the secret to a good skip bomb run.

This is the USAAF report on the Battle of the Bismarck Sea on the use of skip bombing and masthead bombing.  One interesting note on the report, it also comments on the accuracy of heavy bombers (B-17s) in targeting Japanese maritime targets during the battle.

It was in Warbirds when I was there.  The gamey BS it generates outweighs the upside, believe me.

Wiley.

I can see a town carpet bombed with 1/2 hour delay fuses. The start of disgruntlement to rival the HQ threads.

Which means eod would have to be more than just a certain rook pilot's call sign?

Interesting too the time of day for the attacks to be more successful.
