Slow xp startup
« on: February 04, 2015, 02:21:33 AM »
I have been noticing that my computer is getting slower at booting up, I have xp. Will cleaning up the start menu or the boot menu help it boot up faster?

With XP slower booting up may be a sign you have a gazillion viruses running. It's end of life OS and very unsafe to use with an internet connection.

Could be too a hard drive failure warning.  Do a backup no matter but mark it questionable till you find the problem.

Uninstall programs you never use.
For those you use, go through their settings and disable them starting with Windows. Also disable their automatic updates.
Run Cleanmanager, Defrag and System File Check.

Before or after, check for malware with some online tools like AdwCleaner and Eset Online Scanner. Installing and running Malwarebytes' AntiMalware is also a good idea.

And of course, as TC said, BlackViper will give you the most thorough advice in streamlining your system.
