Ripley, you mentioned that you have been running win10 on a couple of different machines, have you noticed that the DVD function of the OS is disabled? I've heard that this is also the case with win8 and 8.1 because of some licenses that MS didn't want to pay for. Do you know of any workarounds to this issue?
Yes, Microsoft stopped shipping support for playing back DVD content in Windows 8.1, and later. Saved them some licensing fees.
For Windows 8.1, you can buy the
Windows 8.1 Media Center Pack if you want to stick with a Microsoft solution. Microsoft no longer provides this as of Windows 10.
Or you can rely on a third party solution.
Cyberlink's PowerDVD solution is considered one of the best, but it is not free.
A free third party solution, such as the one from
VideoLAN is also a possibility.
