If dying for the cause is most important then sucide bombers are the most admirable...

... missions were to be met by the commitment of alerted swarms of fighters, composed of Me 109's and Fw 190's, that were strategically based to protect industrial installations. The inferior capabilities of these fighters against the Mosquitoes made this a hopeless and uneconomical effort. 1.JD KTB

You know zack, there was a thread here a few years back where someone posted pictures of memorials all over eastern Europe (except Russia for obvious reasons) honoring SS soldiers. In some places even the Germans were seen as liberators.

Like this one:

Willing to die, sure...

what about the ones willing to kill?

I dont buy the willing to die thing.  people go to war willing to fight, perhaps willing to kill if they have to.  but willing to die?  I dont think so.

when I joined the marines way back then, I didnt join because I was willing to die.  I joined because I was willing to fight, protect knew dying was a chance I took, but I sure as hell wasnt willing to die.

I dont think anybody that I knew back then that joined because they were willing to die.  You know that is a risk you can take but you dont go willingly to die.

people go in willing to fight and do what is right but they hope they come out alive or maybe at least sane.

It made me wonder how bad communism must have been, that the nazis were preferable and the SS were heroes to them.

Well, let's just put it this way, some historians say Stalin treated the Ukrainians worse than the Germans did and point to the pogroms of the early '30s against the kulaks that was considered to be "class genocide".
