Submitted skins?
« on: August 08, 2015, 04:57:27 PM »
Where can I find a list of submitted skins? Gotta be an easier way then just searching each individual skin to see if someone has done it before, right?  :headscratch:

Even skinners can only see the skins that they've submitted. If you are trying to avoid making a skin that's already been done, it's best to wait for a tour to see what is being submitted. You can also ask around and see if anyone has skinned or plans to skin a certain plane.

Other than that, there is no real way to tell.

Yup, post it here. The skinners are a good bunch and they won't "steal" your idea. Also, these guys have a lot of resources. Posting what your thinking about doing may save you a lot of trouble if it has been submitted, or it won't be allowed for what ever reason and so on. Plus post screenie after you get going and these guys will give you tips and help you make the best skin you can.

Also, what's the official word on skin caps and why do some fighter groups seem to have a plethora of skins while others dont have a single one? (I.e, no 354th or 357th skins on the D pony)

Just curious

If a squad is already represented, a skin for that same squad is less likely to be accepted.

There is a maximum of 32 skins per plane.

The planes that have a low number of skins is likely because it is hard to research the skin or most/all of the squads have been represented.

Not long ago I ask about a skin for the P-38L that i saw on a restored P-38.  The problem was, all though the skin looked like a true WW2 skin it was made up by the restorer and therefore not eligible for an acceptable skin in AH.

It would have been a great skin.

The 32 skins per ride limit was upped from 16 a few years ago. Not sure if they will up it again for a while as I only know of one aircraft that is full, the P-47D-11. The P-51s only have a few slots left though.

I think HTC tend to be more picky about too many planes from one group when the slots for that ride get close to being full. The trouble is many of those skins that are all from one group might have been done years ago when there were only a few skins for that ride. HTC are loathe to retire older skins as they tend to get verbal flak from those players who use it if they do.

You can post development screenshots for your skin in here if you want feedback on it. To submit it you need to log in to the AH skins submission page with your game password details. There you can post the skin files to HTC together with research data (photos etc) and a screenshot of the skin. This will be used on a new skins download page HTC are developing.

HTC usually go through the skin submissions once a month when the tour changes and add any accepted skins to the game. If your skin is rejected you'll be given a brief reason why.

IMO HTC needs to change that stance as a company. Some skins NEED to be removed. Especially when they are 100% inaccurate (the black P-38 comes to mind) or new info comes out to negate their eligability (the black P-40 turned out to be a squadron hack with new info later on), and some just glossed over the background of the skin to get it past review dishonestly (IMO) when it shouldn't have in the first place.

I can list half a dozen skins that need outright removal from the game due to being training or non-combat skins that never saw any fighting at all.

However, there are also skins that just don't fit anymore. For example, before the HurrII was redone I had a Hurr1 skin that was really based on a Hurr2A plane in WW2. It would never have been appropriate with 4x20mm on our in-game Hurr2c, so I put it on the -I instead. That worked, for what we had at the time. However, when they revamped the Hurr2, we got 3 weapons options and NOW, all of a sudden, putting that skin on the in-game Hurr1 is a bad idea and inaccurate. In this case, it is GOOD when skins get wiped. It gives folks a chance to start over, reassess where skins belong, if they're valid, etc.

I think HTC needs to just say "We're sorry, but this skin does not meet our current standards" or "We may rotate it back in the future" or something to the equivalent of "deal with it" to those that complain about losing their favorite skin.

Krusty, if the Alpha is any indicarion, they are eliminating the lower quality default skins on many of the older planes in favor of high quality user submitted skins. For example, the new default for the 109E is my Jg 51 "Josef Priller" skin.

I don't know if that's concrete or just a temp for the alpha to show off the lighting effects better.

no 49th FG skin for the 38J saddens me I would be absolutely delighted if the 49th FG 7th FS got a 38J skin.
