Shallow water and GVs
« on: October 15, 2015, 05:52:54 AM »
I've been experimenting with shallow water in the TE. The main reason is to see if it is possible to create a ford across a river. It seems it is possible as I can drive a jeep through -4 feet depth of water with no problem. If I set the depth to say -20 feet what seems to happen is the jeep drives into the water until it is completely submerged and then at a certain distance from the shore hits an underwater barrier and flips over.

The shallow water is noticeably different to the deeper water when looked at from the shore as you can see the underlying texture, something that might be useful for creating offshore reefs etc.

I've got a few questions relating to this for HTC:-

What is the maximum depth GVs can wade to without getting stuck and is it the same for all (non-LVT) GVs?

On an MA terrain if I were to create a situation where a GV might want to ford a river would that be acceptable? I'm thinking of having a deep river but with a shallow point on it that can be forded to act as a choke point. For example I put an SP on one side of the river and a base on the other? Failing that I could put the SP and base on the same side of the river with a U bend in the way. So you could either drive the long way round the bend or take a couple of shortcuts across fords.

Can you add Sharks to the deeper water?

Would be a nice feature for AH.    :D :D :D

Try a M-8. I have taken a M-8 out pretty far from shore when it is going 62mph. Of course you can't go back, but the way the tires are modeled it might help you adjust how deep you want to go. The M-8 typically gets back on its feet in most conditions where the jeep will not.

Thanks HT, I'll hold off on testing this until its done then.

Mano for this to work I'd need all the GVs to be able to use the ford, so for testing I went for the one I assumed would have the worst ability in this regard, the jeep.

That makes sense. The really heavy gv's roll over easy as well. A tiger 2 on a steep terrain will slip and roll over if you are not really careful. I hope you try one of them as well.
