Gentlemen,

Get ready for some high powered LW action in the ETO in "Air Battle Before Bodenplatte". This event focuses on the early winter of 1944 before "Operation Bodenplatte" was executed by the Luftwaffe.

Please review the write up here.

Please enjoy this video that will introduce some of the aircraft of the period.

Please look to set side selections and preference this week.

Regards,

 :salute
:salute 1) its going to be interesting how your going to put this all together.

            2) after watching the video, the last air battle with the 109 I was curious who the german pilot was.
 :salute

Keep in mind Gents. This is not "Bodenplatte" itself. This FSO only represents the time before this event happened on January 1, 1945.

The sneak attack itself is VERY hard to design and execute. This should be much more fun and balanced.  :aok

I'd even say it's impossible. The Y-29 snapshot is a perfect example of this because it's not at all a surprise to the players. It just has bogus rules that hamper both sides from fighting effectively and nobody has fun.

Good point. Great example.

I will say the Pearl Harbor surprise (forget name of scenario) pulled off a couple of years ago made it more realistic.  We did not know how the Japanese planes got to the island so quickly and in such dominant positions.  Well thought out simulation of the surprise that the US experienced.  We were scrambling from the very first minutes.  It can be done, but only for a frame, then it loses it's mystery.  Snapshot is better for an event like Y-29, but as Devil says you know it's coming and making the surprise up with rules kills the fun.
