New Over-The-Ear Headset question
« on: December 30, 2016, 02:42:45 PM »
I got a new over-the-ear headset for Christmas.  The sound is super and the mic works very well.  The problem is though, when You talk using the Vox, , you hear yourself speak just like if you covered your hears completely, and spoke.  Kind of like talking in a hollow log.  I will probably get used to it but it is quite different from my last On-Ear headset.

Is there a setting to compensate for this in the realtek settings?  All of my sounds come through the headset.  I do not use external speakers.

If your new headset is of the fully closed ear muff type, you'd probably like to add some monitoring sound into your microphone. Realtek may have different control panels, but if you open it, you should find a tab labeled "Microphone" with a slider for replay volume. There may even be a red check mark over a speaker sign. Uncheck that speaker and add a little volume. Not too much to avoid acoustic feedback (the increasing howl you sometimes hear from loudspeakers). Just enough for you to comfortably hear yourself.

Thanks Bizman for the reply.  I could not find a replay slider in realtek , but I did find a a playback volume which I hope is the same as replay.

I believe you've found the correct slider. I simply translated from Finnish to English watching my Realtek Control Panel and to be honest, the words quite often fail on me.

Thank you for your kind words, sir.  :salute

More importantly, did the playback slider provide the solution to your problem?

The new headset developed a loose connection of some sorts in the connector that came with it to convert the single plug to a mic-earphone for a PC creating an irritating buzz.  Never got to to test the change in settings.  Had to pack it up and send back.  Should have the replacement in a few days.

I got the head set replacement installed.
No the playback slider did not work.  I did find a check in sound devices that allowed you to hear what you spoke but there was a delay in the play back so it was like an echo.

Bummer. It sounds like you've found the right setting, but the echoing delay can be very confusing to say the least.

I had a similar issue, what I did was delete the headset from the playback section. Win7 messed up they sound settings but it's a simple fix, leave the headset active in recording then under playback right click and select delete.  That should eliminate the the "echo" effect. I believe the mic tends to playback the sound causing the echo.

Unplugging and then plugging the headset back in should restore it in playback if this causes any other issues.

   YMMV!

Bizman and Morfiend I think I have it fixed.    :rofl   My only problem is I made several changes back and forth so I am not sure how I did it.

Thanks to all for pointing me in the right direction so this old man could stumble on the solution.
