is my monitor slowly dying?
« on: December 09, 2016, 09:37:29 AM »
When my PC is turned on, the screen works but a minute or so later, it goes black.  Then it turns on again for a second and goes black.  It repeats this a bunch of before it stays on.  Like it needs to warm up or something.  No problems after that.

Can't remember exactly when this started, but it was years ago.  The issue has been going on with the last two PCs, so it has to be the monitor.  When I first noticed it, it would only turn off once or twice.  Now it's up to maybe 10 times.  Recently, it has even gone black a few times while playing AH.  It has never gone black after being warmed up before.

The monitor is a HannsG 27.5" form 2009.  Is it on it's way out?

Sounds like the internal power supply capacitors are starting to fail. There's repair kits available in the ebay, but at least here tinkering with high voltages is for authorized electricians only.

I've got an older system by today's standards that still runs the game well by my standards.

That sounds like a guaranteed way for me to burn down the whole neighborhood.

Think I'll start shopping monitors instead.  Thanks.

This can happen if you have multiple monitors on an Nvidia card, and you set "Multi-display/mixed-GPU acceleration" to Single display performance mode, instead of Multiple display performance mode in Nvidia Control Panel. There are other scenarios that can cause the same issue, but that is the most obvious one. If one of your video card outputs is attached to anything else other than a single monitor, then probably you should be using the Multiple display setting.
If you like the Sick Puppy Custom Sound Pack the please consider contributing for future updates by sending a months dues to Hitech Creations for account "Chalenge." Every little bit helps.

The specs look very nice, 75 Hz combined to the wide view angles and image quality of an IPS panel. The price doesn't look too bad either.

I can't tell about that exact model, but at our last meeting one guy had such a curved ultra wide screen and it looked stunning.
