Last night

It has been a while since I have had some good 1v1 fights. Yesterday me and my friend 69fiat decided to go into the DA. As we chatted on vox, a topic came up about Germany and Russia during ww2. So I proposed a plan to test the current planes we have with the two countries. I decided to be Russian and he was German, it was a blast. From the test fights between the planes and compared to historical reports we saw that our results were pretty close to the historical performances. It was very intense fights, we did every possible ACM during stall fights to counter each other. Folks all I am saying is your are missing a lot of fun stall fighting at very slow speeds. They are the best, the adrenaline rush, the thinking, the hands shaking after the fight, the frustration loosing to your opponent, it's the best part of this. People that just jabo, pork fields, and just pick(swing and miss guys) then run are not seeing the true light of this combat sim.  :salute

You know you're having a good time when you get to stall fight a 110....especially if it's against a well flown Mossie.
Flight Leader: "Bogeys at 2 o'clock!"
Wingman: "Roger, It's 1:30 now, what do I do 'til then?"

It is using similar planes but that's why KOTH is one of the better Special Events we have, IMO. Not much sitting around and waiting and intense fights.
Far too many, if not most, people on this Board post just to say something opposed to posting when they have something to say.

69fiat is one hell of a bastage

Had some great fights with him as well

I think the AvA type fighting in the same year is great for well balanced fighting which leads to very fun and often close 1v1 fights!!

My experience is that, most of the time, one side or the other had a decided advantage if you stick to history.  That's part of the fun of AvA matchups, seeing what the real people faced.

Was a great time to be had that's for sure. He would up any of the Russian planes against any of the 109E,F, and G models. We would not tell the other country what plane was lifting off and so there were some interesting match ups. We read some of the history of the war on the Eastern front and how Russian winter played such a dramatic role in the fight.

While most look at the German war machine with aw and wonder, Russia and their ability to recover from near defeat is absolutely a testament to the enduring ability of that people to overcome.

According to the book I was drawing information from ( I am sure that there are varying accounts) Germany had destroyed over 1200 Russian aircraft in the first nine hours of the invasion and a total of ninety percent of its front line strength by the end of the first week. They went on to build seventy thousand aircraft by the end of the war with nearly ninety percent of those being made by  Lavochkin or Yakovlev.

As stated, our fights were very close and mirrored the findings in my book.

Pacific Theater is next.......

Great post Rude!

I just had a similar night doing 1v1's with Trogdor in the DA.  We did several same-plane matchups in stuff we don't fly often and then some dissimilar planes in offensive and defensive fights (where one guy would start 5K higher and BnZ the other).

The nice thing about Trog he enjoys fights for the fun of them, whether he loses or wins -- there is no ego involved.  We both refreshed ourselves with characteristics of planes we don't fly often in the MA, learned from our mistakes, and came away better WHILE having had a really fun time!  (Thanks again Trog!)

Don't let all the chest-thumping and score-monkeys in the MA fool you, one of the high points of the game can be doing 1v1's against someone just for the fun and learning experience.  When you find someone with that mind-set and set ego aside, learning to push the envelope, stall fight at slow speeds, work on reversals and fighting from a disadvantage is really great!

For those of us playing this game for well over a decade, Aces High is more of a social club. The game just provides the framework. I keep logging in for the people and Pipz was the kind that you keep coming to meet again.

I always like fighting in the 190A-5 with full flaps, and 100 feet off the deck!
