Which EVGA 1060GTX
« on: January 12, 2017, 03:41:20 PM »
Ready to buy. Picked EVGA from what people said about return/warranty service. Looked up ACX, SC, SSC, FTW, FTW+ and it sounds like Spinal Tap's "goes to 11" but what do I know. Question 1. Should I get 3 or 6gb, will AH3 utilize 6gb? (bonus question will IL2 COD with Team Fusion Mod?) Question 2: is it worth getting SC for the extra 15 bucks over non SC? Question 3: two fans or one? Question 4: most likely I am never going to over clock but does FTW and FTW+ really make a difference? In the case of AH3?
Pies not kicks.

I'm happy running a  1440p monitor with a 3Gb version (MSI), sometimes I need to turn down graphics settings a bit so my card will run at 50 fps or better, but it usually runs at 75fps with all graphics settings maxed out.  I don't believe the extra DRAM will help you with AH3,; I never use the full 3 Gb.  It may be worth paying as bit more for 2 fans since it'll presumably run cooler.  The 6 GB card also gives you a bit better performance because of hardware differences other than the DRAM, but not enough IMHO to justify the extra $.

I have a 1060 with 6GB. I love it.

Without familiarizing to the bunch of variables:

3 GB should be enough for AH3. There's been reviews, though, that the seemingly minor differences in the design (other than the amount of memory) can cause surprising hiccups in games. However, that might have been an early driver issue as well.

Two fans might mean lower rpm for the same cooling effect which means less noise. Two fans might also spread the airflow more evenly.

Overclocking by, say, 10% is barely noticeable. It might make a difference if you get from 28 to 31 FPS, but not that much from 54 to 60.

I've got an older system by today's standards that still runs the game well by my standards.

If you want to play somewhat recent games then get the 6 GiB version, 3 GiB is just not sufficient nowadays for a gaming card.

Pemquist, here is a link to an article that compares both sizes of (VRAM) Rx460 & GTX 1060 that you might find helpful: http://blog.logicalincrements.com/2017/01/gtx-1060-vs-rx-480-graphics-card-better-driver-update/  Good luck with your choice!
