AAR for Black Sea Frame 1 Friday TOD

Currently, MAG-33 is still flying as I type:

Encountered enemy 109's NE of A3, engaged and shot down about 8 in two different groups.

Fuel low, we RTB'd and landed for refuel.

4 flyers lost gear due to terrain bug shearing off gear when taxiing at edges of runway for turn-around after refuel.(see pic below)

SCRAMBLE was ordered during refuel process as JU88's came in from S and hit City south of A18.  No fewer than 3 JU88's shot down.

Losses at this point were :
20 launched
1 shot down first engagement.

4 lost to quicksand runway edges

15 re-launched for SCRAMBLE call.

2 shot down

Remaining status undetermined at this time.
<S>

Quick sand bug around edges of runway shear (german sabateurs?) gear of LA-5's on refuel.

Frames just about over, all TAS landed.

TAS launched 4 at A19 to patrol NW. Yeager discoed after about 10 minutes but reupped.

Sax, Beemer & Toad patrolled NW clear to V32 then revved towards 18. Over 18, Beem and Sax went to refuel, Toad stayed up to rendezvous with Yeager. Toad dove in to refuel as Beem and Sax launched and Yeager called JU 88's S of 18.

TAS scrambled to follow the rtb-ing JU's. Yeager got 1 Ju with one Probable. Sax got 1 JU. Toad and Beem pursued to the West, finally catching JU flight about 7.14.9. Toad claimed 3, Beem claimed 1, although Beem may have finished one that Toad thought he blew the wing off of but actually got the aileron.

Beem had an oil ping and had to ditch.

Toad had to rtb in the grass after chasing the last JU almost to A9. Landed at V field and successfully exited.

Yeager rearmed and nailed 2 Bf-109's as frame drew to a close.

TAS claims:

6 JU 88 destroyed, 1 Probable

2 Bf-109 (Yeager)

A good time was had by TAS. Vodka for our friends, eternal hellfire to our enemies! ooooo-RAH!

Thanks to all who make these possible!
If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animated contest of freedom, go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen!

Continuation of MAG-33.

JU88s were pursued SW from A18.  Several were shot down by MAG and another squadron (noticed Beemer got one, his squadron).

MAG-33 then formed over V34 and RTB'd to rearm.

Was ordered to CAP A18, then to orders changed to hit what's left at A11 and RTB to A10.  We were on the way to A11 when news came through that it had completely rebuilt (****!!) and to return to CAP A18.  We dumped ord and climbed back to A18.

We were then engaged by at approx 8 190s from the NW.  They had alt on us but we had numbers, Funked's squad was also over 18.

Lost 1 LA5 to mechanical failure (windows update going off and killing netstat - pilot landed, disabled win update and took off again....thats what I call good ground crew!)  Several more to 190 attack.  AFAIK all 190s were shot down, MAG-33 claiming at least 5.

Unsure of total numbers.  All MAG-33 pls report kill claims and status.

Compiling kill claims by email.   Will update.

308 Sqn

FunkedUp-Pup-Dasko
CFIT-Ramz308

5 Sorties
2 Disco
1 Victory
1 Probable

Launched from field [CENSORED] to BARCAP against possible enemy bomber strike at [CENSORED].  Patrol was uneventful, and STAVKA ordered us to protect [CENSORED], after we refueled at [CENSORED].

CFIT and Dasko were lost to "maintenance issues" during and after refueling.  After refueling we went to [CENSORED] and covered the refueling of other units before landing to refuel ourselves again.

Right as we were in the pattern, several high bandits were sighted NW of the field.  Pup and I were already refueling so we finished up and climbed out of the airbase like bats out of hell.  Ramz308 was still airborne when the bandits were sighted so he stayed up to fight.

Pup and I climbed to about 13000 feet and then headed towards the melee.  Ramz308 declared that he was low on fuel and that he had time for one attack.  Then Ramz308 said "I drag" and we looked down to see Ramz308 and a pair of 190s 5,000 feet below us on reciprocal course.

Pup and I did a split-s and engaged.  One of the 190s was shooting at a friendly and another friendly was shooting at him.  So I engaged his wingman, with both of us in a vertical dive.  The wingman turned a couple times but must not have seen me.  I closed to 150 yards and opened fire.  He started to pull up and roll but it was too late.  He dissappeared in a ball of fire, smoke, and debris.

Pup and I pulled out of the dive and climbed West.  Pup sighted a 190 running N on the deck and we dove after him.  Some pilots from another unit got on his tail and damaged his engine.  Then he made a hard turn right in front of me and I covered him in 20 mm strikes from nose to tail.  I blacked out trying to follow him and when I came out of blackout he was gone, so I claim a probable victory.

We chased a couple more 190s but we could not reach them before they were destroyed by friendly aircaft.  Ramz had refueled at this point, and with no enemy aircraft left, we called it a day and landed.

13 JU88's launched from deep behind friendly lines. Flight to target factory designated A42 (near A18) uneventful. Attacked by lone La5 while on bomb run.

All bombers dropped on factory with many secondaries (well, woulda been if they were modeled) and much smoke.

Time to go home. Damn La5's were like sharks. Picked us off one at a time as we returned to base. 4 or 5 made it home safely. We did manage to get one or two of the bastids though.

S! all, lotta fun.

Let me begin by saying welcome to SCLeslie from the Skeleton Crew and KidFury from the Night Hawks.  You both did a great job last night.  I was very impressed being you haven't flown with the Nightmares that much.  You both acted honorably and flew like a Nightmare veteran.  I look forward to flying with you next week.

Well guys we had our hands full last night but we kept our composer and quite frankly kicked some serious Russian ass!!!  All of your winging skill were exceptional as well.  I still have butterflies with excitement over how much all of you have improved.  You refused to leave your wingman and when you did lose your wingman you asked for a new one.

Ok let me break down what happend:

We took off from A11 and headed due south.  Ramesis disconnected right at take off.  Fortunately he got right back in and got up before the 5 minute deadline.  On our way to V28 we were getting report of IL2's and LA5's nailing A11 already.
Wotan then ordered the Nightmares to Kursk and cap it.  On our way there we seen atleast 20 LA5 at 30K over Kursk.  I ordered us to turn around and climb.  At that point FD (who graciously joined us) saw a few LA5's low so I sent two wing pairs Tahgut, Lama, FD, and Plink if I recall.  FD got one and the other LA5 scrambled.  Unfortunately we lost Plink and Lama crashed.  Then Tahgut either crashed or had to leave.  I lost track in the fog of war.

I then set a rally point at V28 to get us back together.  Concho was a little close to Kursk and had 5 LA5's after him so I had us turn around and get him.  Then our fuel status was critical so we rtb'd.

After a successful refuel (everyone made it YEAH!!)  Wotan ordered us to nail Kursk.  Another squad was suppose to help us but went AWOL.  So it was just the Nightmares.  Once we got to Kursk at 28K we seen 10 LA5's at CO-ALT and ordered us to engage.  There was only 10 of us so I knew it was going to be good.  After taking out 7 of there fighters and our altitude rather low 15 more LA5's showed up high.  Then they cleaned us up.  I was the only one left and I had 10 LA5's after me I managed to damage 3 before those bastages took me out.

Great job both sides it was a lot of fun and some awesome pilots for both sides.  I'm proud to have the Nightmares a part of this secenario.

Cya all next week =).

I'm still kicking myself in the arse for my lousy performance last night. For some reason I do much better in the MA (versus bombers especially) than I have in my last three historical flights; two being in BigWeek and then last nights with MAG33.

I have to say MAG33 are a great bunch to fly with. BIG <S> and thanks for letting me join up. I only hope after last night they let me stay.

In the engagment with the 109's I intended to stay in a wingman mode and help pick off any 109's that might have latched on to a squadmate. that last about 3 seconds into the engagment when I had a 109 come across my nose and I got blood fever. Over the course of the engagement I did put bullets into two 109's (claiming assists) but I ended up on the deck and far removed from my group. Strike one  :(

The next engagment during the scramble to get the enemy bombers I was too intent on catching them that I never checked to see if a posrep was being put out by the guys closer. And when I did catch up to the JU-88 who was tail end charlie of the group I started off perfect and then in my eagerness to get the kil over fast to continue on to the rest of the enemy I idiotically blew a good perpendicular attack on him and ended up coming up his "6" - fat dumb and stupid.  We ended up killing each other. Not a good swap. One JU-88 for an LA5FN

I swear I'll do better next frame!

FDB's launched and headed for A11.  We flew through two groups of enemy planes and dropped bombs and started strafing acks.

Lost 1 man as he went for the acks and we along with Nash and the SBM's took out acks to prep for IL-2's.

We were running low on fuel and decided to rearm and then pick up the IL-2's.  As we approached A10 we ran into a large scrap...eventually we were on the deck and engaged with 109's and 190's.

Not sure how many we got.  I got 1 confirmed and 1 assist before "Heinz" killed me.

After that I played armchair General from the tower.

332nd Mongrels and Vikings took off together at A24. We circled once for 2 pilots that had engine trouble.  Both made it up and a force of nearly 20 IL2's headed NW for Field 11.

After about 10 minutes everyone formed up nicely and we were well on our way to destroy an enemy field. Our spirits were high and we felt confidant defending Mother Russia.

Reports of enemy activity between us and our target. We headed West which would bring us south of Field 11, then a small force of enemy 109's began to pick at our ranks. I did not seen any AC go down. About 50 miles out of our target we turn NW again and made a direct run. We were intercepted by a large force of Fw190's. I personally saw two enemy AC go down but at least twice as many of our flights. It was now a running battle with the enemy in hot pursuit! A few friendly fighters were spotted and we were thankful to see them, but our ranks were getting thin as two more of our flight went down.

I spotted the enemy field and made a call to open doors. The Hangers were our first targets then the rest of the field.

Disco    :(

Alas the enemy was ready for us. Only a few Mongrels made it to target and some reports of damage. I don't think any made it out alive. I will let the Vikings tell there story, but I think they faired better.    :)

7 of us vikings took off with the mongrels.
I was leading blue formation of 4, the last formation in the swarm of IL2. as daddog said, half way to our target we encountered 4 109's, that quickly droped on my formation.
knowing we had no chanse I ordered to jettison and face them hoping they leave the other IL2. to my embaresment I found out that I didn't have any bombs on board...
anyhow as we talked in the briefing we pushed for a HO in every swoop the 109 did on us. In the second round I got pinged for no damage and Nilsen got shot down taking a 109 with him. the downed 109 wingman had split and it was 2 109 vs 3 IL2. My wingman stuck to my bellybutton and every 109 that tried to drop on us found himself looking down the barrel of 6 23mm canons. This went on for a couple of min till I had enough speed to pull hard up and get 2 flashes on one 109. He didn't fall but they bugged out shortly after.

we went on our marry way happy to still be flying. Meantime we heard the mongrels and red flight being slaughtered so we waited above A10 for the survivors to join us for the secondary target. Duvel who came late joined us there. No other IL2 survived so we landed for refuel. 1 total lost and 1 lost a landing gear (exeeded max speed).
up we went the 3 of us and were ordered to attack A11. Duvel who lost the gear and couldn't refuel fell near the target.
I with no bombs went de-acking and Iceydee grabbed alt for attacking. I got 4 acks when I flew carelessly near the remaining acks and got my engine shot. tried to land on nme runway and as i was running on the ground got another bunker with the 23mm. ack blasted me while running. Iceydee got a few more fuel and ammo but fuel condition suprised him and he was forced to ditch.

was a slow frame (less than 200mph) but was fun.
<S> to all brave IL2 pilots!
