This P-38L named "Gotterdamerung" (which roughly translates from German as "Downfall") was flown by the 82nd Fighter Group's 96th Fighter Squadron. The 82nd was based in Italy from late 1943 and their P-38s undertook escort, sweep and ground attack missions up until the end of the war.
