Pilot Mesh in the cockpit

I just downloaded the DX11 version of the game, as I had been running the DX9 version. I notice the pilot sitting in my 109 in the hangar, but it is not displayed in the cockpit view of the interior of the plane.  Is the pilot only visible when looking at other aircraft?

Only a few aircraft so far have the pilot modeled from the cockpit view.

In my VR it's visible in the cockpit.

But looking down, all I see is a headless torso with the neck pushed down in to the chest. 

So I turned it off.  It was creeping me out.
