WIN 11 - AH won't open ?
« on: March 15, 2022, 07:24:32 AM »
Having just bought a new PC with WIN 11 installed, I have downloaded AH and installed it OK, but it wont run ! It opens, and then immediately shuts down. Any ideas?

Hmm...have you tried running AH in Dx9 rather than Dx11? I am running Win11 as well and while it works fine for me, I've always seemed to have better luck with Dx9 (although Oculus uses Dx11 now)

Dx9 can be launched from the game folder, there are separate EXEs.

When it opens, the window comes up to a white screen and then closes itself? Or does anything else happen in the meantime? Something else to check is the event viewer. Under Windows Logs -> Application if the AH exe is crashing, it should list it and hopefully tell you why. Could be video card drivers, audio, a corrupt dll, etc.

Thanks for coming back. Yes I have tried the DX9 version, with the same result. The program loads with the usual AH splash screen then immediately shuts down - no comment, nothing.

Using the Event Viewer as per your suggestion throws up error code 0xc0000005 and MS suggests an sfc /scannow which I have done with no errors showing.

I have now resorted to re-downloading the programme to see if it was a duff file..........  :aok

Could be the install messed up also. Try deleting. Then download again and install.

I run 11 pro and AH works fine.

A desktop of that price range should run AH like a charm. Unless there's something wrong with either the game or the OS. I'd blame the latter, Win11 is still new and can have toothing issues. Just today I fixed an issue with a freshly installed 11 and Defender. I mean, if they can't make their own built-in programs run flawlessly on their OS, how likely is it that third party programs won't run into issues?

SFC and chkdsk are the first go-to fixes for anything, followed by a virus scan. "Hello, my name is Kumar, thank you for contacting the Microsoft Help Forums. I'm trying my best to help you solve the issue..."

Try this link... https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=2ahUKEwjs4fbt2Mj2AhUkhOAKHWVWA2sQFnoECAoQAQ&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.stellarinfo.com%2Fblog%2Fhow-to-fix-error-code-0xc0000005-in-windows%2F&usg=AOvVaw06DCQSajAR7OrlaBljNa-p

The problem may be a registry problem
 :salute
As the Stellar info site tells it can be most anything, there was lots more in the q&a part below the actual article. What caught my eye was that it might be a hardware issue which reminded me of something that plagued me one Friday: The SSD cable was getting loose and crashed my system! It later appeared that the SSD was built for laptops where a cradle would keep it firmly seated, there was no notch for the cable to grab.

So double check all memory sticks, cables etc. to make sure they're properly seated and connected.
