Warthog joystick issue
« on: January 19, 2022, 06:49:47 AM »
Last night my warthog jstick went wonky in MA

Odd things would happen when I would try to go to wep, zoom in/out or pull the trigger

Looking at the game controller window in windows 10 the buttons seemed off..intermittently not work at all or all the buttons light up when I pull the trigger...

I looked it up and saw something about a pinched wire or busted wire that might be the issue

Can anyone confirm this?

Is this wire in the grip or base?

If I get a new grip will that fix it?

Thanks for any suggestions

Sounds like it could be a pinched wire. Doubt changing the grip will fix it. It's most likely pinched in the base.
The only way to know for sure is to open up the base and inspect the wires.

Try removing your grip and inspecting the pins/socket closely for anything out of whack first.  Blast some air into them, try reconnecting and see if the problem persists.

If it does, then maybe disassemble your Warthog base, and as S1k said have a poke around for anything pinched or pinching, or any screwed up or stripped wires/contacts/etc.

What GMAN said was going to be my suggest as well. Mine has a bit of play in the handle end, a couple degree of twist. If I had issues, Id have to start there before the base, but if you dont have any issues with stuff being loose, I open the base if the cleaning of the contacts doesnt work.

Thanks guys

It was one of the small wires on the din connector in the base...it had broken

Remove two screws, popped it up high enough to get a soldering iron on it and bam it works again!

Great, it always makes me happy when I have similar problems and the issue is easy to find and fix.  Problem is, this only happens a small percentage of the time, hah.

GJ Eagler, glad you figured it out.

Thanks

Yes glad it was simple to locate as if I had to actually disassemble it too deeply it wouldn't have turned out as well :)
