New system ordered
« on: February 21, 2023, 08:04:32 AM »
Last system I built was back in 2019 - see signature for those specs

For last Christmas and my upcoming 64th birthday in April - had to justify it   :aok - I  ordered parts for a new box

i7-13700KF - benmarks shows it beating my older i9
NZXT Kraken X53 - 1st water cooling cpu attempt  :x
Gigabyte Z790 AORUS ELITE AX ATX LGA1700 Motherboard
G.Skill Trident Z5 RGB 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR5-6000 CL36 Memory
Samsung 980 Pro 1 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive
Cooler Master V850 SFX GOLD 850 power supply
Windows 10 - as I read here Windows 11 has an issue with vr
All that going into a Rosewill S500 case
Reusing the 3070ti

But I won't have it going by this Sundays TOC  :(

It will be my 1st RGB box - it has a glass side on the case

As I enjoy the challenge of building these, I am  looking forward to it

Just saw a video where the cooler prevented the graphics card from fitting in the case....

Let you know how it goes

Been a long time since I've seen a case with the PSU mounted at the top. Hopefully the AIO's tubes are long enough to mount the radiator at the bottom around the card.

What VR headset do you have? I've had no issues with W11 and Quest 2.

Yes 1st case for me with PS on the top..

I use a vive pro and didn't want to risk the hit to vr in win11as mentioned in a thread here

Just so you know: Yesterday I diagnosed a two year old ready built gaming rig with an AIO for the CPU. At reboot it had reported a too hot CPU on the POST screen so I did some testing. After having been untouched for the weekend it booted normally so I ran HW-monitor to see the temperatures and HeavyLoad for stressing the CPU. At idle the CPU was already 59 degrees and it soon reached a full 100 centigrade. After stopping HeavyLoad it took several minutes to get down to 93 at which point I rebooted and got the high temp POST warning. The Bios said that both the pump and the cooling fan were running at 2000+ rpm but despite the CPU still being at 90 degrees both the pipes felt cool against my hand.

I replaced the AIO with a Noctua Cromax and when testing we couldn't get past 70 degrees and after stopping HeavyLoad the CPU was at 35 in a couple of minutes. And according to the customer the computer had never been that silent.

I've got an older system by today's standards that still runs the game well by my standards.
