This B-26C was served with the South African Air Force's 12 Squadron in Italy from late September 1943 until the end of the war in Europe. Assigned the call letter "V for Viking" its crew had both the word and a large Viking head painted on each side of the nose. Like all SAAF aircraft its RAF roundels were modified with orange replacing the dull red colour.
