useless fire

Do rubber bullets really happen to players of this game?
Being male, an accident of birth. Being a man, a matter of age. Being a gentleman, a matter of choice.

Personally I dont think so.

From what I understand, you play the whole game on your front end (your computer) so what you see is what you get. Now what you see may be off a bit from what the other guy sees due to lag. This is why you hear some players complain "he couldnt have hit me from that angle!". From his front end he had the angle.

So playing the game on your computer, hits are registered on what you see and do. Those hits are put into a packet and sent through the servers then to the other guys computer and tells them they have been hit where and how hard.

"Rubber bullets" is an excuse that has been around for a long time. It is caused be how many drinks you had, how much smoke you have had, how close the "wife ack" is in your house, even the fart you thought nobody heard can effect your bullets. Aim is a fickle thing. Your trying to hit a moving target at an unknown speed from a moving platform with a known speed (if you really have time to monitor your speed), taking in to account the angels of closure and the effect of gravity on your rounds.

Basically sometimes you miss   :D

If the packets with damage information get lost going back to the server or from the server to the other player, then you could have a problem, just like warping from position information getting lost. Connections that are generally good can degrade from storms, flooding, and damaged cables. It's the internet.

I like to blame my bad aim on my internet connection whether it's the reason or not  :joystick:

I'm pretty sure Skuzzy told me a long time ago that although they use UDP, the game has it's only error checking and packet retry protocols.

think we need to hear from EU and further players on this one

I think those who fly planes with 20mm-30mm guns would make planes with .50 cal feel like rubber bullets, but one has 200-300 rounds and 50s have like 1000 rnds.

Geographically I'm about the same distance as the EU. Internet-wise I'm probably further (more hops, less peering) and I don't have any rubber bullet issues.

I would also add, flying the yak I get lots of comments about rubber bullets and durability. The planes I fear the most have centerline mounted guns, and the planes I fear the least have wing mounted guns. Because the yak is so small the opportunity for good convergence hits is low. Add in dispersion and things get interesting.

Basically when a jug is hosing away at me with 8 50s more than often only 1 or 2 are landing hits. When another Yak saddles up on me with a centerline 20mm cannon it's brutal, same goes for the 109s, 190s etc.
