Special Event N1K2s against F4U-1Ds
« on: April 16, 2000, 04:03:00 PM »
First off THANKS to Daddog and the Flying Mongrels for organizing this event!!

The Setup: All Walkons would up in F4U-1Ds from whichever field they choose and fly against the Mongrels in N1K2s from A18.

We got 6 F4U1-Ds together initially:
Duma, Me, Drax, SCBecks, GuCamal (that right?) and Zigrat

We upped in good order (heheh except 2 wrecks due to a formation takeoff and the unusual friendly collisions which where on    ) and formed up on Duma out of A26.

We split in 2 flights of 3 and we wre able to bracket the mass of Nikis we found a few minutes later about 3-5k lower. And here's the film

Nikis 2 o'clock low! (about 900k)

after quite a chase i was able to RTB with a few lost feathers     and we fought the second engagement .. this time defending A26 down in the Weeds...

In the WEEDS (about 350k)

<S!> To Daddog and the Mongrels ! GREAT Fight ! GREAT FUN ! -> i'll be there at the next one !

Back at you duck! I had a great time.   Since we are relatively new to Aces High and have not yet set up a consistent pattern in the Special Events Arena the numbers are fairly low. I think in the coming weeks as we fly in the SEA every Sunday we will see the number go up.

Today was a blast! Having friendly collisions on took me by surprise and one of my oldest squad members. I gave the orders for all but purple flight to clear the runway (after you warned us on channel 1 that friendly collisions were on) then gave it full throttle. Just as gathered speed "harppa" rolled in front of me! TBONE! It was ugly! He had a wife and two little ones.
We had a couple of other collisions, but finally made it up. Each flight rolling 1 minute after the next. After 5 minutes all four flights were airborne and heading east for V54 as our first way point. In just a few minutes of flying we spotted two flights of F4U's high 2 O'clock!  The Purple flight was the lead and tried to drag them down, but you all played it smart. After several minutes of dancing the F4U's were getting lower in alt and speed, but we had lost several in each flight. Was a great match!

We regrouped at V54 and headed to your field A26. This time we gave warning that we were coming low to straff. I did this because we had 3 times your number. In the mean time "wilbus" had been trying to make it home, but ended up in a savage running duel with 3 - F4U's. We arrived at 2k just in time to see him go down in his Nik2 out of ammo. If I recall it was a 4 kill sorte for "wilbus" Many of us died in that first pass on your field, but "ozark" took out 3 ack! Then we turned on the F4U's.

Over all a good time had by all!

SALUTE to all who flew the F4U's!

If anyone likes the classic match please look for more each Sunday at 3 PM Easter time!  Thanks for the film duck!
