I've developed a slight variation of the hammerhead..

If I have enough speed and I see the enemy go for the rope, I push vertically untill I see he stops gaining on me.

Then I perform a loop from my inverted position to get a shot at his bottom while he is dragging his nose up. He has two chances at this point, either try to evade to the side, giving me an easy shot - or trying to push for HO which usually makes him redout effectively, blowing his chances to make an accurate shot.

Andy, I've found that in AH hammerheading to the left the engine torque and yaw produce so much left roll that the ailerons cant counter it. If I reduce power the rudder loses authority.

But like vector said the P47D-11 does a beautifull right hammerhead. The yaw and torque seem to cancel each other and very little aileron input is needed.

Its also odd that the D-11 is better at it than the D-25. Having less yaw stability, I figured the D-25 would be better, but it is just a game.

The P38 is probably the best hh'er overall, and can go either direction equally well.
