« on: April 06, 2002, 07:14:24 PM »
I just bought Destroyer Command from our local Wal-Mart for $29.95. (was on sale) I have heard it's an ok game, but I was wondering what you guys thought of it.

Make sure you get the patch.

It will allow you to play against SH2 online. Online is fun when it works.

Im a bigger sub fan than DD fan, so normally over at UBI.com youll catch me ducking Ash cans. Those Human controlled DD's are so much fun.
There must also be a flyable computer available for Nefarious to do FSO. So he doesn't keep talking about it for eight and a half hours on Friday night!

DC crashed on me all the time and there were a ton of bugs. There's a patch out now so maybe they fixed some of them though.

Get the patches and it is ok at best. Get the "unofficial updates" that you can find links to at the DC and SH2 forums and it gets better. Although I still don't think it is a game that is worth the money you pay for it right now. In a year or so it will be a great bargain bin value.

Subhunter II
« Reply #7 on: April 09, 2002, 09:44:29 AM »
I've been looking at Sub Hunter II in Best Buy for the last few days (priced at $40, I don't know if it is worth it or not).  I was wondering if anyone had any comments on it.
Is it good?  Is it bad?
Hows the gameplay?
How bad is the learning curve?
Do you get sucked into it like you can get sucked into AH and Counter Stike?
How are the Graphics?
Any major Bugs?
Security Leaks?
How much does online multiplayer cost?
Just generic stuff like that.
Thanks.

Check other places for Silent Hunter 2 (if that is what you are talking about) I have seen it for near $20 in some sale flyers in the weekend newspapers and in those banner ads that some sites have.

Nefarious's review of SH2 and DC

I will admit, When I first bought the game, I was thrilled! This game was great! Until I started completing missions. Graphics are awesome. And the Ocean is the best! Waves crashing over the conning tower, and your bow leaping from the water. Drawbacks are fairly easy to see. Lack of Dynamic Campaign, And the AI is querky, Sometimes they go right by, not even pinging with active sonar, other times, there is no escape. Not even 300m down on Silent Running. When your catching hell from a DD its really intense. On full realisim the game is pretty dam hard. Torpedos have a HUGE chance of dudding. What's cool is Historical Missions in campaign. Gunther Prien's Scapa FLow mission is crazy! and Drumbeat is a shooting gallery. I'm pretty close to ending the campaign. The big Bugs are pretty noticeable. Like no resupply. Other Bugs you cant even notice.

Destroyer Command has a lot more bugs i think. Once again no dynamic campaign. No calling for Air Support. Other than that its pretty neat. I only play this game online.

Online: You need a patch to play online, for both games. Horrible Connections. I'll host a game with 6 people, everybody will get dumped except for me and one other person. I will admit sometimes you have a good game, most of the time you dont. But when you do! Oh boy! Nothing like torping a DD 800 yards out steaming at 32 knots straight at you! You hit em' on a luck shot and you steer out of the way and he misses you by inches! Only to be Sunk by his buddies Ash Can's when you thought you might get away!

is the multiplayer like that of AH where it is you versus like 5 billion other people?  or is it just like counterstrike where it is like 5 - 12 (depending upon the server)?

Nefarious,

In DC there IS call for support.
In one multiplayer game I called one of those air supports and the plane sunk other opposing players sub while us, 2 destroyers, were working on the other sub player ;)

I figured since it doesnt work in SH2 (resupply) than it wouldnt work in DC. Like I said I only play DC online.
