Helping airmess I decided to take a few shots so you can see the difference between AH with FSAA and without.

The images *DONT* do justice to the game in movement though. And I zoomed them up to make the jaggies more evident; from the normal perspective, the aliased image looks like a straight line unless you get really close to the screen.

The images were taken at 1280x1024 32bit. The Aliased image was taken using 4x FSAA with SuperSampling. The images were compressed to JPEG to reduce size and make downloads easier (the originals were more than 1MB). This in change also reduced image quality quite a bit.

Remember, these are zoomed and compressed JPEGs, so the images dont do justice to how FSAA really looks. Next I will try to take more screenshots at a lower resolution, and also AVI's if possible.
With FSAA, the framerate was still about 85FPS in flight, and no less than 40FPS in big vulches with lots of smoking hangars. The image is very clean looking and everything is very clear. It really helps target recognition.

This one time I was vulching with my chivalrious comrades the FDB, and I only had one 37mm left. Two 109 started rolling, and from pretty far, I was able to tell by the yellow nose  in one of them wich model was the one that would give me more perk points. And thats REAL ULTIMATE POWER.

The difference is clear, but FSAA only really comes into its own in motion.

Now should the anti-aliasing be manually set to 4X or "allow application to control"??

Set it manually to a settings that gives a good compromise between image quality and speed.
4xS is fast enough on a Geforce 4, but its much slower on a Geforce 2.

Thanks to a friend (hardware supplier) I managed to test both the GF4 4400 and 4600.

All I can say is WOW! The FSAA really makes the difference. I usually play at 1280x1024 and now (with my P4-1.9, GF4 4400 and 19" screen) the 3D shapes at FSAA 2X (and even full 4X) are almost perfect. And with a very small fps hit.

If you dont mind overclocking your graphic card, buy a 4400. You can overclock it almost up to the performance of the 4600. The latter cannot be overclocked more than a 10% and sometimes freezes.

Gatt is right on this one. I'd only recomend the 4400 or the new 4200 wich offer amazing performance for lower than $200

My old V5 5500 still runs with 2x FSAA and looks great.  The GForce 4's are the first one that look even close to as good.  Still not as good an AA scheme as the V5, but close enough that it might be my next card this spring. :)

Can't find that setting on my PNY 4400...

For Direct3D?  With the 28.xx dets, like this:

Display Properties>Settings>Advanced>Geforce 4 Tixxxx>Additional Properties>Direct 3D Settings>More Direct 3D

There is the option for VSync. For OpenGL, go to that tab.

my LeadTek Ti4400 OCs to stock Ti4600 speeds no problem (300mhz clock and 660mhz memory).   More than that and I start to get anomolies in 3dmark2001.  (9660 3dmarks at default settings, not too bad for a 1900+ AMD system at 300/660)

I get the same fps as my old system at the same resolution (1280x1024x32).  The difference is I'm now doing it at 4xS FSAA as opposed to no FSAA.  :D

I could go to 1600x1200 but I'm so used to 1280x1024 that the apsect difference bothers me, that is, throws off my shooting.  lol  (4x3 as opposed to 5x4)
