Rooks have won the reset again.

Good for the rooks, there are many highly skilled and proficient pilots that regularly fly Rooks.

But lately i have noticed terrible, and i mean terrible country hopping just prior to reset. (especially in cases such as tonight when the battle has clearly been won and there is no last minute fighting amongst the 2 dominating countries.)

This ruins the game for me.  I dont care about the perk points gained by winning the reset.  I dont have alot of fighter perks but i would never hop at the last moment just to get 60 perk point (20 of which are totally useless for the time being.)

Currently we have a system in place where if you switch countries you are bound to that side for a set amount of time.  (2 hours or something????)  The only point i see in this is to prevent "spying".  A very good reason indeed.

My solution to country hopping:

Not only should there be a "time binded to a country after switching time", there should also be a set time that you have to wait before switching countries.

EG:  Go to map room and switch countries. The server tells you "you have XXX minutes until you will be a XXXX"

Now by no means would this solve all the problems of country hopping for perks and some sort of "glory." It would still happen.  However i feel that if people were prohibited from hopping to the "winning" side just before the reset, the game would be alot more enjoyable.  People wouldnt get pissed off because of their deserters, and the winning side would know that they earned their win outright and that they werent just given that last dorkily overwhelming push by hoppers.

One other problem: if friends join up or a community member gets a friend to join the game, they may not be able to play on the same side right away.  But there would still be no problem with squad rotation or the like, as this sort of move can be planned in advance.

Just my 2 cents.

just to clarify, i have nothing against the rooks or any other team, i just used the rooks as an example tonight as the numbers quickly slid their way as the reset approached, though the total number of players stayed the same or decreased. And yes i know this happens (to an extent) every time a reset is going to happen, just not so noticeable.

If there are country switchers, I would guess that they're doing it because they don't like getting killed repeatedly, since you don't get any points for the reset unless you've been with the winning country for 12 hours.

NOT a good idea.  If you want to prevent people from switching sides to earn perk points, don't punish those of us who enjoy switching sides regularly without regard to perks.  If you want to institute a longer perk-free "probational" period for recent converts  in the event of winning the war -- say a day or two -- that's fine by me.  However, don't prevent those of us who enjoy switching from doing so for reasons that have nothing to do with perk points.

okay then, maybe the system i described...but you can switch sides, just no points until you are there for a certain amount of time...

moose, what would happen if you just switched sides and StSanta popped his leather trousers up in another country?  You would have to listen to his banter on channel one for at least an hour before you could kill shoot yourself on him. :D

simply remove the "perk points for reset" feature.   In all the time I have played I don't think I have ever been around when my country had a reset anyway.   That is usually when things are the most boring.

I'm glad someone else mentioned this.  I was in the MAW for a few weeks and after seeing the Rooks pummeled repeatedly, sorely outnumbered, I jumped to their side.  With my limited play hours, I think I played a total of 3 nights, maybe 4 hours.  After seeing that the Rooks were regaining some numbers, I went back to Knits to fly with my friends.  Well, I'm no longer allowed back in with the MAW since I did such a traitorous act (changing sides...) and while I see their point, I also think its somewhat silly.

But, their rules...I'll just roll my eyes and move on, flying for me, myself and i again.

Quite honestly, I think what I did, and others did, was quite sportsmanlike, trying to balance out a hugely unbalanced arena.

If you switch sides before a reset you are NOT awarded any perk points.

The way I see it, there are alot of individuals that switch countries to get in on gangbanging.  These people will log on and switch to whichever country has the numbers and the momentum.  You can earn alot of perks not counting the reset perks by doing this.  And no, neither I nor my squadmates do this, but we have recently switched countries from the airheaded knights to the rooks.  Wasn't it just three weeks ago the rooks were complaining about not having numbers?
Another thought, in AW there was a squad called the Nomads, and they would change countries on a rotating basis with no alliance to a country, just to each other.

It's my $15.00 and I'll fly for whoever I want.

Thx hitech, i didnt know this before you and SOB mentioned it. Obviously i was not the only one.

I guess there is no solution for side hopping.  Some people just like to be on the winning side at the end of the day i guess.  :(

I myself have always flown Bishop, and i dont plan to change.  There is a core of Bishops that form their own little "community" within the country and help each other out.  I imagine that if the gods of AH would have placed me in a different country when i started playing i would be just as loyal to that country as I am to the bishops.

I myself would be ashamed to switch sides and fight against my team mates just to be on the winning team. (regardless of perks)

Sure there is a solution, Allow ME163's active at a small airbase near each country's HQ. That will give folks inspiration to stay in the country rather than to bail out when their country is in peril.  This also is a solution to mass raids on HQ's and with a small dirt strip near the HQ and only 5 min. of fuel, the ME163 is not going to be a threat to anything else but incoming unescorted bombers to the rear fields/HQ (area that is usually hit last for a reset).

And here are a bunch more solutions posted awhile back:
