Ceditcard numbers over the internet ?

Hi all,

in germany we are a bit oldfashioned sometimes.
Normaly you pay with cash or with a cheque here.
As for myself never had a cc, but will use one of a girlfriend.
Don't know if it's a good idea though, to send the cc number over the internet.
What do u guys think about the security on the internet transfer?

Hi Blitz,

Some people are very leery about sending CC data over the internet.  To say that there is no risk would be foolish, however the risk is very small.  I'm sure that HTC will be using all the latest and greatest security software to ensure that there customers financial data is safe from fraud.

But get used to it purchasing goods and services over the internet is the wave of the future.  I heard that almost as much money was spent over the internet this Christmas as was in stores!

I saw a credit card security study that said you were more likely to have your cc # stolen by a employee of a restaurant(someplace we don't think twice of using our cards) in a big city than over the internet.

Of course there is a risk, there is always a risk.

However, most credit card companies limit your liability to $50 if your card or # is stolen and used illegally. You should check with your company for individual details.

 The IMPORTANT thing to do is to ensure when you do a transaction over the internet you have a SECURE link. Never fill out a basic text form and email it.
  I'm not sure what the indication is for Internet Explorer that you have a secure transaction session underwy but for Netscape users the lock on the lower left side of your screen closes and hilights. Then you know the cryptogrpahic standard is in place. When you enter your credit card on a website that is using a web security you're safe.
 For instance. Go to http://www.buycomp.com.  Select *any* item to purchase. When you click on "continue to secure checkout" you should recieve a small "security alert" window that advises you that "you have requested a secure document and that it is encrypted for pivacy..."  If you do not get this window it may be that your browser does not support it or that you may have in the past disabled that alert in your browser settings. You know you will have a secure link when the lock on the bottom left of your browser (Netscape!) locks and is higlighted in yellow.
 You're ok. I too have ordered alot off the Internet and as long as you shop at a website that uses enryption technology you'll be fine.

What baffeld me about WB was that they didnt have a secure server when opening a account (at that time - not sure about present status).Really hope AH gets this service - anything else is amateurish (spelling? - you know what i mean ;=)

Don't transmit your CC number to anyone you wouldn't give it to over the phone or in person.

If you transmit the CC over a secure connection, the chance of it being intercepted is nil.
