After flying several bomber sorties and getting my arse handed to me I decided that something was wrong here. My first observation was this: Bombing from 15k under is pure suicide!! Just about all the operational Alts of the fighters is In or around 15k. Also it usually takes no time at all for a fighter to get to 15k. So without proper fighter escort bombing from such altitudes is madness. So before yall start thinking this is a nother bomber whine I want to ask you fellow aviators for help. I've done some reading and research and ive come to this. In reality Bombing raids where at Altitudes from 18k being the lowest and 30k being the highest(average) When raids where maid HUNDREDS and sometime THOUSANDS of bombers where used. Since bombing back then wasnt an absolute they would blanket an area. I read where the lead bomber in the flight would calibrate his sights and everyone would drop on HIS command. They did this by using smoke canisters placed in among the bomb load. So this is my request to yall. I know bombing has gone to the pewper laltly and that makes me sad. The one thing that appealed to me was seeing MASS formations of bombers being escorted by fighters....its the stuff of story books!! But I digress, here ya go try this...Try taking up a large formation of bombers, say anywhere between 6 to 8 guys with 3 buffs each.
pick a decent altitude to form up on each other. This is important because it offers the best protection from fighters and the best coveravge of area droping bombs. MAINTAIN THAT FORMATION!!
Now when you come up to the IP the LEAD Bomber should calibrate his/her sight not everyone....again staying in formation is VERY important. You shouldnt be more than 1k away from the lead. So here we are on the run with a nice formation of buffs. After the lead calibrates his/her sight he/she will signal,using VOX or mission text, when to drop. In THEORY everyones bombs should be in the target box....Please try this out and see how it works for yall. Myself and some of my squadies from Iron Eagles have tried it to some success.....Fighters and Jabo's cant do all the work thats why the BUFFS are there....
