Frame #1

No. 250 Squadron of the Royal Air Force set out to straff targets along the Mersa Matruh road when they were jumped by MC 202’s of 18 Gruppo. Thier main target was the Fuel Depot. They destroyed the Depot but at a high cost of planes and men. The Italians fared well in face of superior Odds.

The result was a DRAW for both sides.

Frame #2

Even after the results of the First Attack the men of the No. 250 Squadron of the Royal Air Force set out on thier second mission of the day. Feeling they had weakened the Itialans enough they targeted a nearby Air Base.

Once again the Pilots of the MC 202’s of 18 Gruppo rose to the air to meet the enemy. This time even with odds against them the Itialians were more than a match for the RAF. Only a Few bombs hit thier targets at the airfield and Many more P40's were shot down compared to C.202's

The result was an AXIS Victory for the 2nd frame and an overall VICTORY for the AXIS.

It looks like the split was the same 60/40 for both frames, I disagree that the axis were under strength in frame 2.

47 to 36 frame 1
36 to 24 frame 2

This was a cake walk for the axis in terms of the combat, the "odds" in percentage mean little when you have P-40Es with bombs having to hit a ground target and C202s (faster and climbing better) knowing exactly where they have to hit, with no delay in their roll.

For the RAF P-40s that stayed to furball, I warned them as thier CO what the chances of them seeing home again were, so for them, I make no excuses.

It was run according to design, and I take no issue with Jordi, he was kind enough to run 2 frames for us , but I would like to see some of these designs give the "attacker side" a few breaks such as:

* Multiple targets that can be hit, ie a fuel depot OR an airfield, the defender has to take into account several possible targets. Not just "sit" over the one and only target and wait.

*A delayed roll, ie a "scramble" in some designs that need it (not all do).

*Scoring based on LANDED missions, too many "sucide charges" against bombers and fighters, just to get a kill (many seem guilty of this one).

*Ratios like 70/30 or escorts for the attacker if its less than this in their favor.

I did have fun in both frames, just a few items on my wish list. Ya, I know its not TOD, but I see no harm in improving the Snaphots if they can be. I will continue to support them, they are very cool, better than MA any day.

Note from last night: Properly flown, a mere 12 C202s could have harrased a 40+ formation of P-40s for a good 30 min with no problem, they could have done this with few losses as well. Its just not required to have such massive interceptor force drop on a fighter-bomber group? In the original mission according to the write up it was 12 P-40s and 4 202s ( 3 to 1). If both sides insist on MA furballing at 2k, well, thats their choice, it doesnt mean that because its not "50/50" that its somehow "unfair".

As far as *both* sides insisting on furballing, that wasn't the case with the guys I was flying with. Our P-40s were basically being run down by high diving C205s. It was that simple.

3./jg2 got almost half the axis btw

it wasnt the imbalance in overall numbers it was a couple of 3./jg2 experten

Well, sorry to disagree but it I hardly think it was any kind of contest. All you had to do was climb over the target and wait. Im not taking anything away from the skill shown by some of the Axis pilots, especially Urchin, but I think I have some valid ponts on the overall design.

I mean, its not an axis vs allied issue. Both sides have scenarios where they are the bomber/fighter-bomber force. It would have been as fun and as challenging with 2 targets for the P-40s to hit, just as an example.

Thats my opinion, for what its worth. Its not sour grapes, I landed both my sorties, and I would have been just as concerened about the balance if it was 36 Bf 110Cs attacking a ship convoy with 24 Spitfire Vs waiting for them too.

I salute JG2 and the Axis for a very tense frame as well, despite my misgivings, it certainly wasnt dull!
