But unlike bowties, most men that shaved did so with straight razors - until they degenerated into wimps...
BTW, you could probably find a scene with John Wayne wearing a bowtie (in a gambling parlor?) and still being as manly as they come. Not as often as James Bond but sufficient. You would no more see him with a safety razor than with a wimpy little James-Bond like pistol instead of his trusty long-barrel six-shooter.
