A mint julep is a traditional drink of the "Old South".  In the most basic of terms, it is bourbon, sugar-water and mint.

To prepare:

put about a teaspoon of sugar at bottom of a 5-7 ounce rocks glass.  Add to this a little water and some fresh mint.  Muddle this together to release the mint.  Add about 2.5 ounces of bourbon.  Drop in some finely crushed ice and stir.  Garnish with a fresh mint leaf.

I knew being a bartender would be helpful :)
