I currently use a Microsoft Force-Feedback flight stick with the rudders on it. I've been thinking about buying a set of foot-operated rudder pedals to more realistically simulate flight.

My questions are these:

Do the foot operated rudders offer any advantages over those mounted on the stick? If so, what advantages?

Why types or brands of food-operated rudder pedals are the best? Well any brand do...or do some install and operate easier and smoother than others?

I recently bought a pair of Thrustmaster Pedals. They serve the purpose, but I've many bad things about the Potentiometers on this system.

From the replies I got, you've got 2 choices, Thrustmaster Elites or CH Pro Pedals.

I went with the TM's because they were much cheaper. As a matter of fact, Chips and Bits had the best prices on these by a mile. You can comparison shop at cnet.com.

The best thing about foot rudder pedals is that it allows for better stall and spin recovery. Its also easier to use when landing, or when taking off and not using the auto launch feature.

If you're using USB, then go with the CH Pro pedals. I'm using a gameport connection with my old CH regular pedals (also double as gas and brake pedals) and CH F-16 Combatstick.

AFAIK it's mostly a matter of personal opinion, the Thrustmaster's have the feet furhter apart than the CH pedals, there is a price difference, then there is the issue of the pots on the TM's as stated by muck.

You will not have any instant advantage, I too was on a M$ FF twisty-stick before I bought an X45 and consequently CH-peds. It takes a lot of getting used to. I'm not a RL pilot so this was a totaly new experience for me, and was uncomfortable at first.

Now that I am used to the pedals, I much more prefer them over both the twisty method and the rocker method (found on Saitek). I can say that for me, I have greater & finer control of rudder input with the pedals.

Thrusmaster Elites are cheapo crappy plastic pedals. Go on ebay and do a search for Thrustmaster RCS these are the older version and are made of medal much sturdier and also the pedals are further apart for a more realistic feel. The Elites are a waste of money

CH Pro pedals are good for sure, do not buy the normal CH pedals, they don't have any "flight pedal feel" only the "car" mode.

I use a pair of old CH Pro, half defect by now but definatly do the job, real life pilot so definatly helps me.

There is another pair of pedals that can be ordered from Germany, can't remember the name, somebody know it?
They are suposed to be the best, never tried them though.

The CH/CH Pro Pedals and the TM Elite use the same type of pot. The only things that'll cause one to go bad before the other would be environment and/or luck. I prefer the old TM RCS, even though it uses one of the cheapest pots you can find and will need to be replaced after a while of constant use. The Hofmann Pedals would be my second choice.

Is this different from the thread on Frugal's Cougar forums about converting the CH Pro Pedals to be voltage-out, not current-out, and then merging the output into the Cougar?

ch pro peds USB are around $100 USD...

Great with the exception of the toe brakes WILL fail within a couple of years requiring some knuckle busting i believe.

I haven't taken the plunge to repair mine yet..
