Interesting Eastern Front set-up
« on: September 23, 2002, 12:50:20 AM »
And Im impressed with the winter terrain.  At first I didnt like it a whole bunch but it defiantely has grown on me.  Has a definate feel to it.  It is hard to fight down low against the mottled texture.

The LW boys have a bit of an advantage but not enough to make it a problem.  The smart ones (tm) are a real challenge but thats what makes it fun.

I am bummed to find vehicles so restricted but thats okay.  What really bums me is that I cant do field defense in a AA field gun.
These things are fragile as eggs to begin with but they give a way to at least attempt to ward off a vulchfest.

I would ask for the field guns to be enabled.  Other than that Ive really enjoyed myself in this setup.

CT folks and to the Map maker

I was mentioning the same thing in the tower the other night.

I've noticed inaccessiblility of field guns in the last two or three CT settups.  Wazzup wit dat?

Also, vehicle access seems rather spotty on this particular terrain.  I guess the Russians didn't have any ground troops/defense in this theater.  When I found I couldn't man an active field gun at a base under attack, I tried to grab a gv.  No joy.  No vehicles on the list in the hangar.   Yet when I attacked a German base later in an IL-2, I encountered an M-16 at that field.

Go figure.
Nice-looking map.  Some anomolies like some of the water not being flat and an afformentioned bug with some re-arm pads.

I like it as long as the clouds stay away.

I enabled field guns but I beleave the map does not suport this function, or If it does it is not universal.

This map has a couple issues, but Sundog is aware of them and has planes to revamp them( both the winter and summer map). Issues we have discused are, more vehical spawns, field bugs( landing issues), field proximinity( their are some prety big gaps betwen some of the fields). This map was designed around the Kursk battle in 43( or rather it's Brother the summer map was) and the Vehical spawns up N are designed to place vehicals into a kinda cauldron, they meat in the middle to do battle, great for special events but not so great for CT battle whear we want GV to spawn towards the next base to augment the air attack.

I am very happy to hear you like the map it has always been a favorate of mine, I love the feal of the snow and the special snow fields very imersive. Hopefull Sundog can work his majic on the twins sometime in the future, both maps are a great asset for future CT set up's.

I agree I like this map it is hard to spot your enemy against the ground though thats why i like the clouds stay above them and I can see enemy good except the first time I chased a Yak through the clouds thinking I was higher up as soon as I broke through I said yikes ground is close and then splat. This is a good set up fairly equal hopefully I can fly a Yak some if the numbers are good.

I first I was worried about the frame rate hit from the clouds but am finding my system is no dropping below a playable 28 fps under them.  My only wish for the clouds now is that AH the alpha worked for icons and the dots in them.  I feel I can still see the enemy and he can see me far to well.

I've also discovered that a near vertical dive through the clouds leaves one just enough room to pull out above the ground in a 190 but the La5 on your six seems to have a "harder" time of it...

I had a great time with this setup, with one exception.  It seemed to me that the radar settings had been altered in a manner that made it easier to avoid showing up on the radar.  Assuming that I wasn't hallucinating, I found that this made it much harder to find a fight.  I understand that this is more historical, but I vote not to do it the next time.

Really got a kick out of being able to fly the P40 a bit, and I am gradually learning the A5.  The map was a beaut, and I hope to see this setup again.

It is possable that they killed the radar at the field nearst the action, or that the HQ was porked, I think in future I may reset HQ downtime to be less than MA standard to help this. But generaly one neads to look a little more closely in the less populated CT to find the fights, unfortunatly nobody responded to you your "?" about the point of the fighting:(
