A bit confused.....need help
« on: September 20, 2002, 08:12:01 PM »
Pilots,

Yesterday while I was in the CT I was called out on being "dweebish" I am aware that ther are some unwritten rules in AH. Let me explain what happened so that I might be corrected and informed better. I logged on as Allies. A field was being hit by TWO Cruiser fleets and a Carrier fleet. At that time both FH were dead and I was only able to up bombers. An LVT was just coming ashore so I was frantic to defend said base. The LVT sat at the end of the runway and continued to to flame me everytime I upped. I knew that If I tried to up a GV that, by the time I got there the base would be Capped. So I kept trying to Up a TBM with Rocks. once off the ground i would lvl as fast as i could and try and line up a shot. Didn't happen, got flamed everytime.

Was I wrong in trying to save this base or should I have just let him take it? Also, is "vulching" or denying the NME the ability to UP A/C wrong in CT?  People, why should I let a foe up a plane that is A: more agile than my own and B: heavilier armed than my own?  I just wanted to know if I was breaking some rule or unwritten law....

sorry for the small "novel"
TIGER, tiger, burning bright
In the forests of the night,
What immortal hand or eye
Could frame thy fearful symmetry?

What you did was absolutly fine, as what he did was also absolutly fine, except when he called you a dweeb, which really isn't as much of an insult as you might guess because we are all dweebs.  Don't take it personally when one or two folks critisize you, some players can't help but to whine at anything.

As soon as you call somebody else a dweeb you will be a SENIOR member of the community.:D
Welcome to AH bud, don't let an incident like that worry you.
Like Eskimo said we're all dweebs.

Yup, ya did good< I must say I would of been all kinds of happy to have kills handed to me like that If I was that LVT, and I also salute your valent effort at defending the base.

I would not swet being called a dweeb, ya nead to consider the source, you never know the guy on the other end of that 50cal could of been an 8 year old.

Besides the olny real dweebs in AH are the guyes who regulary fly spitfires we all know that:)

The problem is this, whether it be right or wrong, is that some folks are tired of the suicide nature of the main. Especially those in the ct.

How many times did you up a tbm and die trying to get that lvt? In that same amount of time instead of upping an

lvl as fast as i could and try and line up a shot. Didn't happen, got flamed everytime.

You could have upped in the hanger and flew off in a direction that would have allowed to gain a better attack run. lvts are easy to kill with just 50s. Even easier with rockets. But I imagine the guy in the lvt was like "I cant believe this guy is going to kill himself over and over".

Had you thought for a minute you could have set the guy up for the kill without turning to suicide.

You play how you want but you may need a bit thicker skin if it upsets you that people call you a dweeb.

just my 2cents.........

Forget "Dweebish" junk, fly what ya want how you want is what I say... If a HO is what works HO em! Imo the only "dweebish" things are stuff like shooting down ur allies and Calling poeple dweebs for shooting you down.

Hey, BTW I used that same tactic on some Vulcher with tank once in the h2h (a no vulching FFA) that vulched me like 10 times!... Doesnt work too good, but better then just sittin in tower, and kinda fun :D

Good question Muddy.
Tell me other than knowing how to hack into the program, would anyone cheat?
Most calls of cheating in this game are not cheating, it's usually somebody having a bad day, if they lose the other guy has to be cheating. It's also usually the people that once they are shot down, follow up with "well it only took 3 of you", "or nice warp"'.
There are some people who just can't live with the fact their not the absolute best at this. Hell I suffer with this same problem, I'll come online and after getting waxed 3 or 4 times in a row, think I'm not this bad, somethings wrong with the connection, or that guys doing something to game the game. I'll log off in self rightous indignity, and later I'll laugh at myself, and tell myself."Your not that good, and it's only a game, and you got spanked." Most of us die in this game because of mistakes we made, just because another player exploits our mistake doesnt make him a cheat.
Very few people get through this game without bad days, ethier in flying or attitude. Sometimes  the real world will follow a person into the game, causing him to say things or act in a way he should not, or normally would not act. If he's a normal AH player he'll come to his senses, sooner or later. If he's one of the few boneheads we have, and we do have a couple, who never stop whining and rasing hell.
Sqeulch the guy and move on.
So long answer to your short questions HFMudd??????? I have no idea.  Hmm squelcher maybe?:D

Well put Lowe. (he cheats:D  j/k)

Blow off the "dweeb" crap. Its can be cause you got the better of some guy or they just feel like mouthing. Its your $15 fly what you want when you want and have fun. Try not to buy into the BS you see. CT is pretty laid back and I hope it stays that way. Like Lowe said, people say stuff they may not really mean when the get frustrated ( i am definitely no exception to that but im in counseling) so blow them off till they drop it or squelch them. If you dont see it, they arent talking to you. :D

p.s.  being called a cheater can be taken as a compliment in some cases.:)

Oh, I consider a an accusation of cheating to be a compliment.

The one that comes to mind for me is a fight in the MA I had with about 3 P-51's during my brief Bf-109G6 w/30mm and gondolas phase.   For the longest time these guys could not land a solid hit on me.  When they finally managed to get a decent burst an take me out I expected either silence on channel one or a "Whew! That was work ."  Instead I got a long diatribe about how there was no way a 109 could be ping that many times and how I had obviously hacked something and how...  (Didn't get the rest, I squeched him at this point.)

I took it as a compliment...

Another one that I got when I first started playing, which actually bothered me for a bit, was Spit IX pilot that caught up to my FW190A5 in a dive.  At that time I couldn't do a decent scissors so I tried just cross controlling in hope he would overshoot.  He didn't and down I went.  After upping again I spotted a lone Spit heading away and so started chasing thinking maybe I could get another chance with the same fellow.  He didn't turn so I though maybe he didn't see me (Or was AFK, same diff in my book.)  and so I dove low and then zoom climbed up from below to stay hidden.  Suddenly I found myself overtaking him to fast, blew my approach like and managed only to get one, count them one, mg ping on his rudder.

Well, it turned out he had run out of fuel.  With me zipping around he blew the ditch and crashed.  Because of that one ping I got the kill.

Man, did this guy go off.  He went on and on about how I was no good because I over shot and how if he had of had fuel I would be dead.  He then spent the next 20 min trying to get me to meet him somewhere in the MA for a duel so he could "show me."

At the time it kind of bothered me.  He was the first personality I really ran into.  Today I would have pointed out that it was *he* that lost track of his fuel.  That of course would really have set him off.  I would then have told him to meet me at some out of the way location of the MA, squelched him, and gone back about my business.

So anyway Ontos...  welcome to the MA, I hope you enjoy it and AH as much as I do.  Fly what you want, fly it like you like it, squelch the personalities and fly often.

See you online.
