Problem using the mouse as joystick

Joystick gave up tonight (in pitch - there's a surprise!) and has been ceremoniously chucked in bin.

I've tried to set up the mouse as my flight control device by selecting 'calibrate joystick'.  

I confirm mouse for 'all inputs'.

When I move flight controls:

the ailerons respond with 'hold right click and move up /down'

I expected that left click and hold would do it for the elevators but nothing happens.  

Can anybody offer advice please?

PS: Any recommendations for a new joystick? - I have a budget of about £30. i want force feedback if poss.

update.  Now got elevator and aileron use, with no hold and move required, but VERY sensitive.  Cannot find a way to calibrate mouse (is such a thing possible?)

How do you get the controls to work without holding down the mouse button?

Also, I don't know how much that is in US$, but for about $50 US you can get a thrustmaster afterburner.  Looks like a cheap toy but is solidly built.  The best feature is that it has a joystick twist, which can be locked, and an option to use a rocker on the throttle as the rudder.  (No more bumping the rudder when you move the stick)

logitech wingman 3d is about $30 US ... dont know exchange rate but its a decent stick.
no force feedback but has twist and 4 buttons on top of stick which is nice

Hey Lecter,

Yes I had the same problem. Go into your HTC directory, under settings, find either mouse.cfg or stick.cfg and delete the file. Then when you enter Aces High DO NOT calibrate the mouse. I had the same thing happen to me where I would move the mouse and you could only get full deflection of the control surfaces, you could let it auto takeoff but then couldn't fly. Hope this helps and get a new stick soon my friend!
