Perk points in the CT
« on: October 27, 2002, 08:47:04 PM »
This is my question, is is possible to have the points reset to 0 for a new CT setup, and if so, why is it not done?

Typicaly it is done, if a perk plane is to be included in the set up, Initaly I was concerened that the 262 would be to available and unbalancing, howeaver after flying this set up on both sides I realy feal that is not the case. I think Jarbo did good on this set up.

I think it would be a good idea to reset the perk points whenever one of these setups comes around.  I gather the purpose of perk points is to simulate limited production of an aircraft type and preferential distribution to the proven pilots on a side.  The 262 is an excellent historical example of this (i.e. JV44), and I think the perk points can do a good job simulating its presence and distribution.

However, if the perk points are not reset, then we have a situation in which huge numbers of 262s must be supposed to have been stored up in order to be used in some sort of shock operation.  Warloc up there, for example, could easily afford to lose several of them per day for the whole week.  I am sure some could afford several per hour!

Resetting the perk points would make them truly valuable and genuinely fearsome.  Right now they seem to be throwaways and are certainly a nuisance.

So far, I have seen one yak.  The rest have been 262s.

Over the past few days the weakness of the 262 have become apparent in an areana whear it's primary aponents are the Tempest, Spit 14 and F4U-4, the best plane in the areana to efectively fight the later seams to be the La-7, I see numiours planes going down, and a prety fair share of those are 262's they are fallling victem to their slow excelration and often over filled fuel tanks, and poor range of their MK 108 cannons, the fairly low cost and aboudant perk point stores of some CT regulars has made them be used in a fashion that they would normaly not be. Heck I die acked a base with one turn faught a Tempest and killed GV's the other day. The singulary coolest thing about this set up presently is the fact that it is alowing the exploration of the Plane to it's fullest. The agressive use of this plane clearly shows it's limations, when the plane is used in this manner it is extreamly vulenerable to the Perk Prop planes. After being sixed a few time I found more and more La-7's uping to fight on more equile terms with the tempest's and the F4U-4's.

The Me 262 can easly be dodged, is hard to hit with, and after the novility whears off is kinda boring.

That's because we don't have bomber streams in need of protection and which must hit a limited set of known targets.  The 262 has no purpose in the present setup since there is no need for the allies to keep control of the air above 10k.

I would like to see Wotan's 8th AF setup with 262s perked at something like 20 and perk points reset at the start of the week.  Now THAT would get TENSE!

Problem is, no bomber streams.  While there are some who enjoy it, the majority of AH players don't want to spend their online time climbing to altitude, dropping their bombs and flying back home.  (Only to screw up the approach and auger the two drones...)

I'm hoping that with the introduction of the Mission Arena, HTC will rethink the bomber concept a bit.  I'd like to see bomber groups, maybe 15 or so, that air start on the "friendly side" of a board and simply fly to the other side.  Ever bomber that manages to leave the map reduces some strategic asset of the enemy some small amount.  At any point in the flight you can join one of the bombers as a gunner for some .50 fun (Probably add a message like the base alert for when an enemy fighter is near the group.) but you don't get to fly the bomber.

You would still be able to up 1 to 3 bomber that you do fly for "tactical" raids.

I hardly ever look at my perks in the CT, its hardly an issue.   Although with the 262 in play I looked and it was around 350 pts.  So I was thinking how about a program that I can cash them against my AH bill ??? ...........   just a thought.

Actualy,  I agree with the coments I  flew the 262 once with  Bryan,  actually had a blast.   It does take longer to get to alt and speed is hindered by the fuel load.   I prefer to to fly the LA7 but its not much of a plane above 10k.   I think the ME262 is the axis's only plane that can perform on some equal level with the P51 and the F4U at higher alts.   Also,  I agree the 262 really comes into its own going up against bomber streams which is not seen all that frequently.

I agree that the perks needed to be reset prior to this set up.  I started the weekend with several hundred perks myself, but I still try to fly like I want to rtb.

The 262 is definitely a challange to fly effectively.  I'll say one thing for it, if you fly it enough, your snap-shot will really improve:D.  While most of my shoot-downs with it have been split 50/50 between snapshot hi-6 attacks and HO's, I've had one really great hi-alt dogfight with a Spit-14 last night.  We were co-alt, but I think he was slow from his climb out.  We did a HO merge, but neither of us would commit to the HO shot.  I did a climbing extention followed by a pitch back.  We came head to head again, and this time we both tried to go vertical at the merge.  He hung on his prop and must have momentarily spun.  I managed to finness it over the top with a notch of flaps and a prayer, then let her have her nose for a moment to regain control authority.  I rolled to put him above my gunsight and gave him a squirt with all four 30-mikemikes as I flashed past.  He got lucky, as I only tore his wing off.  He managed to bail and we exchanged salutes.  Landed the sortie with two kills.

Trick is to keep her speed above 300 and know when to extend; do that and no one can touch you.  You only need to ping an nme once to get them out of the fight.  Oh yeah, and low level base sneak's, to catch people in the landing pattern or just taking off, are really the bomb in this thing.  Best counter to the 262 in this set up is the F4U-4, in my opinion.  It's acceleration in the dive gives you a fighting chance to bag a jet that gets below you.
