we have three countries because in theory the two smaller countries will attack the one large country, sometimes it even works that way.

Hehehe HFMudd, that's what I call thinking outside the box.  :D

Numbers will never be "balanced" in a game like this no matter how many 'sides' there are unless the player base makes a conserted effort to MAKE it that way.

The only way they can keep our interest is to allow squads to exist. They could make every other person who logs on go to a different side and not allow side changes. That would solve the problem but wouldn't be much fun would it?

No WE can even out the sides for the most part by "policeing" ourselves. Bish seems to usually have the most numbers to me. I think one squad should change to Rooks for a tour and see if the numbers even out more. If that doesn't work we try something else.... etc...

WE are the only ones that can even the odds not HTC, at least not without pissing alot of people off and they aren't going to do that.

There is the solution or one to try anyway. Any volunteers from the Bish side to go Rook? I'll bet there aren't... :(

well i was thinking about this and it is possible for the 2 country scenario to get bad too....

what if a bunch of neo-nazi wackos set up in 1 country and declared it nazi germany?

or what if 1 of the countries got "labeled" as the nazi sympathizers by the arena?

my guess is alot of the members of that country would switch sides and unbalance the heck out of the arena.

also the 3 country arena avoids the "AXIS vs ALLIED" kind of thing i believe HTC wants to avoid. (my belief)

i am rambling and not stating this clearly LOL but i think you get the idea of the can-o-worms a 2 country arena could open in my mind.
I don't know what to put here yet.

We cant have 2 sides becuase then we would have concrete numbers as to who is fighting who and therefore who should benifit from side ballencing game mechanics.

even at our now typical 150 110 50 they can still say the two big countries are fighing each other.

But if we could look at the roster and see that the sides are inballenced and that the lesser side is not being fairly beaten they are being unfairly hammered then..

hmm numbers greater by 50%..lesser side shows no icons.

hmm constant heavy ack anywhere over lesser country for bad guys.

hmm 10 minute spawning limits for bigger country

But as long as there is no concrete way to show that the obvios is happening.

For a start I think it would be fairly hard to win a war with only 2 countries, because as the bases got less on one side ALL pilots would be there around the action, this would also lead to lag, warps and framerate hits, as it would be very very busy in the sky.

Also this type of gameplay would follow a very set formula ie: one side would get the upper hand and steamroller the opposition this would lead to very linear gameplay that operated on one level.

But with three it means you have to defend other front, which in turn spaces out pilots over a wider area and as a by product it offers up two types of gameplay at any one time, offence AND defence,

Also we would miss those times when you have one side down to 3 bases (say rook) and your trying to win and all the time the knights are catching up, and if they gain a base more than bish the gameplay changes so that you have to protect the last rook base and get a knight one back.

In my opinion 3 countries leads to a much better game dynamic with a gameing style to suit everyone. :)

I vote for JB73's answer.

There is no mathematical or statistical reason why three countries would somehow reduce imbalance vs two countries- only statements without proof.  Three countries clearly doesn't insure balance as the Rooks (who are always outnumbered two to one) will atest.  (And no, I'm not a Rook)
