Spoits are good planes for new players to fly around and get some kills, before they decide if they want to invest in a joystick.

all! I was doing very well in a Spit 1 at first, but the negative g engine out thing really got to me after a while. Tried the Spit 5 too... just "felt" wrong. I have tried a few others as well, like BF109G-10, P-47D-11, P-51D... usually wind up floating home without even getting a shot off. In the Spit 9, I have been killed most often by 51s and LA7s.... go figure. Last night, I went on a goon binge. I figure 3 more drops and I can afford an Arado for bomb runs. As far as fighters go, in one night I got enough perks to afford a C-Hog, but the Corsair's handling is WAY too spooky for me.
I might try a N1K2, but it seems to me they are best suited for field cap or vulching.
As a side note, I found it MUCH easier to get kills when winging with someone and just keeping his 6 clear.

Paul, don't dismiss the spit 5 too quickly. While it is a bit slow, and the .303 aren't good for much more than turning a non-savvy opponent, it is virtually impossible to kill in a one on one against most of the planes in ah. One of my favorites.

Yeah, I hear ya Iron. I might give it a try once we get to a different map. The biggest reason I've stayed away from the Spit 5 so far is that I usually wind up at alt trying to chase something down because there's nobody else around to do it. On the other hand, if I've been having success in low alt base defense with the 9, the 5 should be even more fun!
I think I'm one of those hard case folks who can ONLY learn by trial and error. A couple of days ago, I caused my first overshoot, and said to myself "Ahhh, so THAT's what they mean!" Now I need to get a handle on a few more BFM and ACM to add to my bag of tricks.
I find it very encouraging, though, that even when I don't get the kill, the bogey usually has to really work for it when they're on my 6.

Spit is good for a couple kills but u mormally end up pretty low and without E getting picked by some 1.
I flew Spit also in the beginning. Flew spit V for 2 tours or 3 then started to grab some german stuff because its just more challanging.
Since the Money Award i am switched back from 109g2 to 190 F8 or D9 just to have the chance to survive from all these La7 and 51's that cruising around.

Be proud of your spitdweeb status Paulieb.   I love being a spitdweeb.:)
