Unfortunatey, the only way you can experience truely great gameplay is to have a team that works together, and in BF1942, it means LAN play mostly. When you up the AI to 2 to 1 and increase CPU usage to AI, there is no 'mindless' play. You have to communicate, work fast, and use tactics to do well or you just get squashed. Choke points, blitz tactics with tanks, flanking the nme all is modelled as good as any sim that bores everyone outta the chance to use them 'with realism in mind' in other current games. When it does work, it's as rewarding as any game out there.

Granted, online as a single player via the really good post patch servers,  it's as impossible and unfullfilling as trying to make a diffrence winning the war in AH unless you belong to a squad or something, and brings up a good point the latest review of BF1942 points out in Computer Gaming World.

"It's not the games fault people don't want to play the way it was intended, but what are you going to do?" Yeah, I'd join a clan too"

If you think BF1942 is mindless, you miss the greatness of the game, because in the right setting, it's just a blast, as the developers intended.

Still, the solo gameplay  is pretty damn fun, if not ... um, mindless?

Buy it.

I just hop in a plane and run over infantry

If you're a decent stick in AH there isn't a soul who can touch you in the air over there, save for AA guns which knock me outta the sky worse then the ack here.

I tried the multiplayer demo once: The graphics are excellent, driving vehicles is fun. I can't say anything about flying planes cause I didn't have a joystick and I crashed most of the time.
