Marathon up near the Turtle Hospital.

We've been to Key West and then stayed on Islamorada for a few nights last summer.  I love the Keys.

We went snorkeling this year at "Robbies" (I think that was the places name) this past August on Islamadora. The Keys are simply beautiful.

well going to see my daughter in Monterey what was supposed to be a five hour trip turned into 8 as I drove 100 miles on wrong freeway. then had to take mountain passes at night climbing hills with incoming trucks going 60 mph head on then started to rain.  not fun.  stopped about 15 miles away as I didn't feel like going thru another pass at night.  just waiting a bit before I drive the last 15 miles.

it was awesome.  what was supposed to be a 5 hour ride turned into 9 with me getting lost, I actually went over 150 miles on the wrong freeway.  had to take back roads to get back.  that mountain pass at night with rain was scary but I drove it on the way back during the day and it turned out to be a basically a road on flat ground with a few hills in between to make it interesting.  but at night tired and in rainy weather if wasnt nearly as interesting.  I drove close to 500 miles on a 340 mile trip.  I drove the last 100 miles the next day as I was tired (scared crapless more like it) after driving in rain, in the dark one a one line each way highway at over 60 miles an hour in the dark.

but it was worth it, I spent 2 days with my daughter and my granddaughter.  havent seen them in a few months.  we went walking to the beach as she lives about a mile away from it.  felt weird as I dont even walk  the 1/2 a block to the liquor store to buy a beer.  (hey I live in LA, it's against the law to walk here).

but to be honest I am grateful my boss forced me to go on vacation.  felt weird waking up at 5 am with nothing to do and then going back to sleep. or going to sleep at 10 pm knowing that I dint have to wake up early but waking up early nonetheless.  what was nice is waking up early anticipating having breakfast with the girls :) that realizing that 5 am is not breakfast time then going back to sleep and waking them up at 8 to come down for breakfast I made  :rock :rock.  was only 2 days but it was a very good 2 days. looking forward to next time.

That is no fun being in a car that long.  My friend in Canada's wife's parents drove to Toronto from no-where "Quebec" last year.  When they left at the end of their stay they ended up going west instead of east.  They only found out their error when they got to Windsor, Ontario, about 4 hours away.  They had to drive 4 hours just to get back to their original starting point.  lol

Great that you saw the family etc.

I should mention that most financial services businesses mandate that employees take at least a week, sometimes two, off with no access to their work network and no physical access to the office.  It is in our policies manual that this must be done.  The reason is simple.  In virtually all cases where employees are found to be "monkeying" with the books it is also found that they have never taken more than a day or two off at a time.  They cannot afford to be out for longer because the likelihood that they will be discovered increases exponentially the longer they are out of the office.  Sometimes they simply need to be there to book an entry into the system every week to cover up their theft or wrongdoing.

I had a case where a guy in the office was using funds held by some clients to pay the bills of other clients, because he hated collecting money and didn't want the clients to complain about his time being charged.  In that case we found he had disregarded our policy of taking at least a week off, otherwise we would have found out sooner.  His manager never even checked.  He actually ended up catching himself.  For some reason his network access was shut down one day and, due to a guilty conscience, he assumed he had been caught.  I had to go hunt him down at a bar, trying to make sure he was ok, because he just walked out of the office and didn't come back that day.  When I found him he was hammered and spilled the beans on himself.

We now double and triple check that everyone takes "mandatory leave" every year.  That incident above cost us about $100,000.
