I had the opportunity to get an up close look at this LVTA4 during a recent scuba diving trip to the island of Peleliu in the South Pacific.  The island was the site of a major US amphibious assault in 1943.  

The most amazing thing about this piece of hardware was that the track hubs on the opposite side can still be spun around with one finger.  The stainless steel of the bearings still look as shiny new as the day it rolled off the line... after some 60 years in the jungle.
