Confusing orders, my fault .

The supplemental imagery accompanying allied orders showed both d20 and d21 as targets this frame. However, allied orders stated that d21 was an allied objective, not d20 . I assumed that the objectives were stated clearly enought, my bad, I assumed too much .

I wondered about that, so I wrote the orders for just an attack on D21.

I can share the blame. I should have asked for clarification.

I think that's a little harsh, Wotan. My orders were this:

Allied CO
Objective Ensure the safety and security of the supply convoy (TG60) bound for Malta .

Objective As allways the protection of the island of Malta from German and Italian bombers that are now attempting to turn the cities of the island into a fine powder .

Objective We have new air assets in the theatre and we're going to make use of them . Destroy D21.

The map said to destroy D20 OR D21. I chose D21.

Maybe he was... Still, if I spoiled it for the Axis, it was not my intention and they have my apology.

Hell... I almost wrote the orders for an attack on both D20 and D21, but I've learned from past TODs that improvisation and initiative aren't encouraged.

You can improvise and do anything you want in TOD's as long as you are attacking you objectives.  The reason we don't want you to attack other fields etc is that nobody will be there to defend.

We can make the orders less detailed and give a sector to defend rather than an actual target.  This might give CO's more room to maneuver and trick the defending force.

Which is the reason I didn't add D20. If it wasn't expected to be hit, then I'm not supposed to hit it.

Mistakes happen on all sides. Some time the Frame C.O. blows it, other times it is the Admin CM. We have all made those kinds of mistakes, no big deal. :)  I sure have!

Skernsk you could give sectors to defend, but if they only have one target then you might as well give the target. If that sector has multiple targets then they can defend them all, but you should make them all objectives to attack.

Sandman, for the TOD’s we are in a bit of a tough spot when it comes to the orders. I think everyone could agree that when you log on to fly in a TOD you want some action. Furthermore I have learned from years of experience what will kill an event faster than anything else is the lack of action. In the 1 ½ years since the TOD started I have received about a dozen e-mails that were complaints. I would say ¾ of them were because a squad flew around for 2 hours with out action. Reasons varied from a mistake from the Admin CM, Frame C.O., Squads not showing up, and Squads ignoring their specific orders.

TOD’s are designed to give squads action in a single life event every frame with specific squad missions and over all objectives for the Allies and Axis.
