fixing up CH gear
« on: February 10, 2003, 05:42:04 PM »
Well, I'm pretty sorted in sticks now. I have a choice of a Stickworks upgraded FLCS, TQS, and RCS setup or an X45 setup. At the moment I use the TM gear, but I get regular spikes in the RCS.

Previously my CH gear had been getting spikes as well. So I think its the gameport. Plus my CH Pedals were spikey themselves on the right hand pedal. So what I want to do is clean up my CH Pro Pedals and maybe whack them on a Gameport-USB converter.

Does anyone have any tips on repairing/cleaning CH Pro Pedals?

That pot on the RCS is garbage, and very well might be dying.  Go to your local electronics store and find a replacement that matches the shaft in a round-about way, then install it in place of the old one.  It may take a bigger hole in the crossmember and some trimming of the inside hole on the gear.

If you wanna go with the CH Pro Pedals , you could probably get a replacement pot easy enough by just calling CH Products.  An alternative is to spray out the pot with some sort of contact cleaner.  This will get out any contaminants that may be in there (which gets under the slider contacts and causes spikes), but will also wash out the lubricant and lessen the overall life of the pot.  Of course, you may never reach the end of the pot's life anyway and you can install a new pot if you do, so it's not necessarily a big deal.

For any plastic-plastic contact that needs lubrication, just smear on some Vaseline or other Petrolium Jelly.  Works great and lasts a long time.
