How do I get panning/mouse view to work?

I have tried it the following way: Assigned pitch view and yaw view to mous axes, then pressed f8 to go to pan mode, holding down right mouse button to enable the mouse.

When I move the mouse fully left I am looking forward. When moving it to the right i can pan the view towards looking backwards. Well, this doesn't really seem to be usuable (e.g. no way to look to the left...)

It works the same (or rather doesn't work) when I'm assigning analog axes from the joystick to pitch/yaw view.

What am I doing wrong?

You gotta calibrate joystick and as part of the process hold your mouse button down while moving your mouse left/right and up/down.
At least i had too.

Thanks, it works now (with joystick axis at least).

Now that it works and I tried to use it a bit I don't think I am going to use it much because the head position stays fixed when turning the head, so that would require another three axis to move the head to actually be able to see anything...

Yup thats why most people try it then decide to ignore it, why use it when it gives you a much worse view ?

Now if as you moved your view the head position actually smoothly adjusted to give the same presets as the snap views that would be something to applaud.

Oh also I find the tracking is very jerky which really stops me using it.
